Ocracoke Health Center Inc is a non-profit, community based organization making up three Federally Qualified Health Centers in Ocracoke, Engelhard, and Manteo, NC. We were established and have been operating since 1981 as a provider of family practice medical care, and became a Rural Health Center in 1982. Our mission statement: to operate and maintain a primary care program for all citizens, residents and visitors desiring those services, especially for those who have limited access to adequate medical services. Ocracoke Health Center, Engelhard Medical Center, and Manteo Community Health Center provides care to all persons in need, regardless of their ability to pay for services.

We’re a small but mighty nonprofit healthcare organization looking for a welcoming, organized, and reliable Front Desk Receptionist / Scheduler to join our team!


In this role, you’ll be the first friendly face our patients see—and the calm, reassuring voice when they call. You'll help create a smooth, supportive experience for everyone walking through our doors.


This position is being posted as a temporary assignment to cover a leave of absence. While employment beyond the temporary assignment is not guaranteed, candidates should be aware that a permanent opportunity may become available based on organizational needs and staffing requirements. 


The schedule will be Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm. 


What You’ll Do:

  • Greet patients with warmth and manage appointment scheduling
  • Handle phone calls, messages, and voicemails like a pro
  • Keep patient info up-to-date and confidential (HIPAA matters!)
  • Post payments and support daily front office operations
  • Be an essential part of our team with a focus on excellent patient care

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 1 year of front desk or customer service experience
  • Friendly, detail-oriented, and ready to learn
  • Bonus points if you have healthcare experience, are bilingual (Spanish/English), or know your way around Athena EMR!
