Maintenance Handyman!

We are seeking a reliable and skilled Maintenance Handyman to support multiple daycare locations in BC. This role is responsible for performing general maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting to ensure safe, clean, and fully functional facilities for children and staff.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, dependable, and experienced in basic plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work, with the ability to prioritize and resolve issues efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs, including:
- Fixing leaking sinks and basic plumbing issues
- Replacing toilet seats and bathroom fixtures
- Changing light bulbs, switches, and minor electrical components
- Painting walls and performing touch-ups
- Basic carpentry repairs (doors, shelves, fixtures, etc.)
- Diagnose maintenance issues and determine appropriate solutions
- Prioritize work orders based on urgency and safety impact
- Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations and daycare standards
- Conduct regular inspections to identify potential issues
- Coordinate and communicate with external vendors for larger repairs or specialized work
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, materials, and service requests
- Communicate effectively with management, including Area Directors, regarding maintenance updates and needs
- Travel between multiple daycare locations as required
Qualifications & Skills
- Proven experience as a handyman or maintenance technician
- Strong knowledge of:
- Basic plumbing
- Electrical systems (minor repairs)
- Carpentry
- General building maintenance
- Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose problems independently
- Strong understanding of workplace health and safety practices
- Excellent organizational and prioritization skills
- Good communication skills with staff and leadership skills
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel between locations
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in childcare, schools, or similar environments (asset)
- WHMIS or other safety certifications (asset)
- Strong working knowledge of general building systems and repairs
- Ability to work independently, troubleshoot issues, and manage priorities across multiple locations
- Valid BC driver’s license
- Physically capable of performing maintenance duties (lifting, bending, ladder use, etc.)
- Strong communication
- Must have a valid Criminal Record Check (CRC) or be willing to obtain one prior to employment, as required for working in licensed childcare environments
