About The Company
UGL Regional Linx was established in 2021, after parent company, UGL Limited was selected to deliver operations and maintenance of rail infrastructure for the Country Regional Network (CRN). This network ensures the safe movement of people and goods throughout the regions of NSW, and links Sydney with many important regional centres. UGL Regional Linx commenced operations on January 30 2022 and works on behalf of the client, Transport for NSW (TfNSW) and will be responsible for managing an important network of assets. As part of its operation, UGL Regional Linx’s scope of work includes: • Network operations • Rail infrastructure maintenance and implementation of a new train control system - UGL’s proprietary system, Sigview. • Asset and property management, and • Safety, access, performance, and environmental management. UGL Regional Linx has made a strong commitment to local and indigenous employment, further strengthening the organisation’s commitment to regional NSW. As part of its operations, UGL Regional Linx established its head office and Network Control Centre in the heart of the Central West, Orange, NSW. The CRN network includes: • 2,386 route kilometres of operational passenger and freight rail lines, including 996 km of branch line track used predominantly for haulage of grain, with lower mass and speed limits than other parts of the network • 3,139 route kilometres of non-operational lines • 27,000 hectares of land and infrastructure • 1,312 level crossings (300 active) • 1,200 property assets (including 356 heritage sites) • 600 rail under bridges and 384 road overbridges The CRN is a crucial piece of infrastructure to regional NSW and UGL Regional Linx is committed to ensure that it delivers for all customers, from rail passengers to farmers and industry.

Design Manager - Lead Major Rail Projects from Day One

UGL is home to one of Australia’s largest in-house engineering teams, delivering complex transport and infrastructure projects nationwide. As part of the CIMIC Group, we bring long term stability, technical depth and genuine career pathways.

This full time permanent position will be based out of Brisbane’s CBD and your first assignment will be to support a major greenfield rail project in South East Queensland. This next stage of work involves delivering new dual-track rail, tunnels, stations and stabling infrastructure, a largescale expansion that will help shape the region’s long-term transport network.

About the role

As Design Manager, you’ll lead the coordination and delivery of rail systems design, with a strong focus on signalling and integration across disciplines. You’ll work closely with engineering teams and delivery partners to plan, manage and align design outcomes, ensuring everything is practical, buildable and ready for delivery.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll shape early design strategy, coordinate resources across disciplines, support bid-phase and early-stage design development, and drive safety in design through collaborative reviews. You’ll set the foundations for successful delivery from day one.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate rail systems design.

  • Develop design management plans and align multi-discipline delivery.

  • Drive safety in design and participate in interdisciplinary reviews.

  • Align stakeholders and ensure design outcomes meet project and delivery requirements.

About you

  • Experience in a similar rail engineering design management role.

  • Degree in Electrical, Mechatronics or similar engineering discipline.

  • Ability to work across multi-discipline teams and complex interfaces.

  • Confidence managing stakeholders and influencing outcomes.

  • A practical mindset, balancing technical design with real-world delivery.
