About the Role

Company Description

HR Connect Ltd has been a trusted HR partner across the Waikato, Auckland and Bay of Plenty for over 21 years. We work alongside small and medium-sized businesses to deliver tailored HR support — from hands-on, on-site assistance to specialist project work.

What sets us apart is our distinctive blend of operational HR, strategic thinking, and a genuinely human approach. Our 15-strong team spans generalists and specialists — including HR Generalists, Health & Safety, Psychologists, Employment Relations, and a dedicated Recruitment team (Executive level included).

    Job Description

We're growing, and that means opportunity. We're looking for a talented HR Specialist to join our team — someone who thrives on building strong relationships with clients and making a real difference to their business.  This is not your average HR role - it gives you contracting flexibility + a brilliant team to work with + plenty of work with great clients who actually need you.

You'll provide expert guidance to managers and employees, helping strengthen culture, resolve issues, and improve business outcomes. Your week will blend ongoing support for established clients with fresh, varied project work — no two days the same.

    Your key responsibilities:

    • Providing expert employment relations and HR advice to resolve complex workplace issues
    • Supporting HR policy development and best-practice frameworks
    • Leading or contributing to HR projects as needed
    • Building trusted, lasting relationships with a diverse client base
    • Leveraging HRIS and recruitment systems (tech-savvy is a plus here!)

    Qualifications

    • 5+ years of HR advisory or Business Partner experience across generalist HR — recruitment, L&D, performance, remuneration, and ER
    • Solid knowledge of New Zealand employment legislation and the confidence to apply it
    • Strong analytical ability and sound project management skills
    • A natural ability to establish credibility and confidence with clients quickly
    • High professionalism, attention to detail, and a grounded, down-to-earth style
    • Exceptional initiative — you're self-managing, responsive, and proactive
    • Technical savviness and comfort navigating HR systems
    • Flexibility, composure under pressure, and a good sense of humour
