Schedule: Tuesday through Saturday (Core Hours 3pm –11pm, subject to change)
Job Purpose: The Second Shift Events Security Supervisor shall oversee and coordinate security operations during events and routine zoo closing procedures. Under direction of Zoo Atlanta’s Security Manager, this role involves supervising a team of security officers (internal and external), ensuring safety protocols are followed, and responding to incidents swiftly and professionally. The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, experience in event or venue security, and the ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. This position is an essential operating position(s) and as such, may be required to remain on and/or report for duty during declared emergencies or when necessary to support operational needs. Declared emergencies will be defined by the Director of Safety and Security or appropriate manager.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist with zoo closing procedures, including sweeping grounds of visitors and ensuring building securement at the end of each day.
- Coordinate with second shift janitorial staff including oversight of building access for janitorial services in accordance with established schedule.
- Assist with oversight of after-hours contractor access and activities.
- Supervise and manage third party security personnel during events, including breaks, post assignments, and performance monitoring.
- Ensure all security personnel are in uniform, on time, and positioned appropriately.
- Conduct pre-event briefings to communicate event-specific information, safety procedures, and emergency protocols.
- Coordinate with event staff, venue management, law enforcement, and emergency services as needed.
- Monitor CCTV systems, access points, and crowd behavior to identify and respond to potential security issues.
- Respond to incidents, disturbances, or emergencies, and coordinate with Security Management and law enforcement or emergency services as needed.
- Document incidents accurately and file reports in accordance with company policy.
- De-escalate confrontational situations professionally and efficiently.
- Perform security inspections and walkthroughs to ensure compliance with regulations and internal standards.
- Train and mentor new and existing security officers on policies and best practices.
- Maintain a visible security presence to deter misconduct and reassure guests and staff.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned by manager or higher.
Qualifications:
Knowledge:
- 5 yrs. of experience in security, military, or other public security experience preferred.
- 3 years of supervisory experience within the past 5 years preferred.
Special skills and abilities:
- Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel. Good communication skills (both verbal and written), and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Must be flexible with excellent public relations skills.
Education:
- Requires a High School Diploma or the equivalent. Degree preferred but not required.
- Must pass all applicable background checks, pre-employment testing, and criminal history.
Driving Requirements:
- Must have a valid GA driver’s license and good MVR.
- All employees that drive Zoo vehicles/carts/operate a Ride (train, carousel, etc.) must consent to a MVR verification that is acceptable per Zoo Atlanta’s auto liability insurance carrier’s guidelines to perform this function).
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift 50+ lbs.
Work Environment:
- Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather. Employees are expected to work outside more than 50% of time, must be comfortable working in cold and hot weather conditions.
