About The Company
UGL Regional Linx was established in 2021, after parent company, UGL Limited was selected to deliver operations and maintenance of rail infrastructure for the Country Regional Network (CRN). This network ensures the safe movement of people and goods throughout the regions of NSW, and links Sydney with many important regional centres. UGL Regional Linx commenced operations on January 30 2022 and works on behalf of the client, Transport for NSW (TfNSW) and will be responsible for managing an important network of assets. As part of its operation, UGL Regional Linx’s scope of work includes: • Network operations • Rail infrastructure maintenance and implementation of a new train control system - UGL’s proprietary system, Sigview. • Asset and property management, and • Safety, access, performance, and environmental management. UGL Regional Linx has made a strong commitment to local and indigenous employment, further strengthening the organisation’s commitment to regional NSW. As part of its operations, UGL Regional Linx established its head office and Network Control Centre in the heart of the Central West, Orange, NSW. The CRN network includes: • 2,386 route kilometres of operational passenger and freight rail lines, including 996 km of branch line track used predominantly for haulage of grain, with lower mass and speed limits than other parts of the network • 3,139 route kilometres of non-operational lines • 27,000 hectares of land and infrastructure • 1,312 level crossings (300 active) • 1,200 property assets (including 356 heritage sites) • 600 rail under bridges and 384 road overbridges The CRN is a crucial piece of infrastructure to regional NSW and UGL Regional Linx is committed to ensure that it delivers for all customers, from rail passengers to farmers and industry.

UGL is delivering essential services and maintenance for the NSW Government’s Regional Rail Fleet Project, including the upgrade of the Sydenham Maintenance Centre (SMC) to meet the requirements of the new fleet. We are seeking a Project Engineer to join our team and support the delivery of these critical works.


About Your Role: 

As the Project Engineer - Electrical or Mechanical, you will support the Lead Project Manager in delivering the Sydenham Critical Work packages. This includes design coordination, product manufacture, installation, testing, commissioning, and operational readiness of facility upgrades such as electrical systems, diesel fume extraction, and fire and life safety systems.

Key Responsibilities:
 

  • Develop a thorough understanding of the overall Critical Work and project interfaces and communicate effectively to stakeholders.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy workplace and ensure compliance with UGL project delivery objectives, policies, and applicable laws and standards.
  • Assist the Lead Project Manager with coordination and resolution of technical issues with the client and stakeholders.
  • Ensure project deliverables comply with contractual requirements throughout the lifecycle.
  • Liaise frequently with the project team and third parties; prepare technical proposals.
  • Identify and manage engineering resource requirements to meet deliverables efficiently.
  • Assist in producing, reviewing, and signing off project documents (management plans, design reports, drawings, ICDs, implementation plans).
  • Lead technical meetings with stakeholders and contribute to issue resolution.
  • Act as technical lead for construction, testing, and commissioning phases.
  • Support procurement by preparing scopes of work and technical requirements.
  • Participate in program reviews, KPI reviews, UGL project gate reviews, and monthly project reviews.
     


About You: 
 

  • Degree in a related electrical or mechanical engineering discipline or relevant equivalent.
  • Minimum 10+ years’ experience in project engineering, preferably in rail or heavy industry.
  • Working knowledge of AS 9001 Quality Systems and AS 1400 Environmental and Safety standards.
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant engineering design software.
  • Technical knowledge and experience in rail (desirable).
  • Membership of a professional organisation (e.g., Engineers Australia) (desirable).
  • Current Driver’s License and ability to obtain a Rail Industry Worker card.
  • Demonstrated engineering judgment with ability to provide sound technical solutions considering design, financial, and commercial implications.
