About the Role

Description

Greenville University is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor that oversees and coordinates campus maintenance operations, ensuring buildings, systems, and equipment are maintained in a safe, functional, and efficient condition. This role provides leadership to maintenance staff, assigns and reviews work orders, supports preventive maintenance programs, and assists with hands-on repairs and facility projects as needed. The Maintenance Supervisor plays a key role in maintaining a safe, clean, and fully operational environment.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily maintenance activities and assigned staff.
  • Prioritize, assign, and monitor completion of work orders to ensure timely response and quality standards.
  • Perform a variety of maintenance duties across multiple trades, including painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC system maintenance, mechanical repairs, minor vehicle repairs, and general facility upkeep.
  • Complete preventive maintenance tasks and ensure proper documentation and follow-through.
  • Perform lighting maintenance, installation, troubleshooting, and repair, including work at heights and overhead.
  • Regularly perform overhead work using ladders, lifts, and similar equipment in accordance with safety standards.
  • Coordinate and assist with event setups, including tents (pop-up and staked installation), tables, chairs, staging, and equipment movement.
  • Assist with groundskeeping tasks, including seasonal work such as snow removal and general outdoor maintenance as operational needs require.
  • Ensure safe use of tools, equipment, vehicles, and personal protective equipment, and maintain organized work areas.
  • Collaborate with custodial and grounds staff to support daily operations and special projects.
  • Inspect work for quality, safety compliance, and completion standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and staff activities.
  • Support a safe, clean, and functional campus environment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of Facilities Operations.


Requirements

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or trade certification preferred.
  • Extensive experience in building maintenance or related trades required.
  • Prior supervisory or lead experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of multiple maintenance disciplines (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, etc.) 
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, technical documents, and safety procedures.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound operational decisions.
  • Must be able to perform physical work including lifting, climbing, bending, and working at heights.

Work Environment

  • Work performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Exposure to mechanical systems, tools, equipment, and construction materials.
  • May require early morning, evening, or weekend hours based on operational needs.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, and lifting.
  • Ability to work at heights using ladders and lifts.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy materials and equipment (typically up to 50 lbs or more with assistance when needed.)
