Structural/Pipe Designer I

General Summary of the Position
The Structural/Pipe Designer I supports the engineering and design team by developing detailed 2D and 3D models and drawings for structural and piping systems used in natural gas processing and fabrication projects. This entry-level position assists in producing accurate designs and fabrication drawings while ensuring compliance with industry standards, company procedures, and project specifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (following are accountabilities included but not limited to):
· Prepare 2D and 3D models and detailed drawings of piping and structural systems using AutoCAD or other CAD software.
· Assist senior designers and engineers with layout, design, and drafting of piping systems, supports, and structural steel components.
· Review and interpret design specifications, P&IDs, and equipment drawings to ensure accuracy in models and deliverables.
· Coordinate design details between piping, structural, and mechanical disciplines to ensure consistency and fit up during fabrication.
· Support the creation of fabrication and installation drawings for shop and field use.
· Perform basic material take-offs and assist with maintaining bill of materials (BOMs).
· Update drawings and models to reflect design changes and field modifications as required.
· Assist with design reviews and ensure that all work meets company and client standards.
· Maintain proper file organization and version control of design documents.
· Collaborate closely with fabrication shop personnel to ensure drawings are practical, clear, and aligned with fabrication methods.
· Other duties assigned to meet the needs of the business.
Skills and Abilities Required:
· Proficiency in AutoCAD; familiarity with CADWorx Plant or similar 3D modeling software.
· Basic understanding of piping design principles, structural steel design, and fabrication processes.
· Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, structural drawings, and fabrication plans.
· Strong attention to detail and accuracy in drawing and documentation work.
· Effective communication and teamwork skills for collaborating with engineers, designers, and fabrication personnel.
· Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under supervision in a fast-paced project environment.
· Willingness to learn applicable codes and standards such as ASME B31.3, API, and AISC.
Education, Training, and Experience:
· Associate degree in Drafting, Design Technology, or related field (required).
· 1–5 years of experience in piping or structural design, preferably in the oil and gas or industrial fabrication industry.
· Training or coursework in AutoCAD, CADWorx, or other 3D modeling software (preferred).
· Familiarity with basic design and fabrication principles (preferred).
Work Context:
· Regularly works in the office but may be required to visit fabrication and assembly facilities as needed. At those facilities, must be able to work in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and other particles.
· Regular interaction with engineers, project managers, and shop personnel to support design and fabrication activities.
· Must adhere to all company safety policies and wear appropriate PPE when in shop or field environments.
· Some extended hours may be required to meet project schedules.
