About the Role

Description

The Akron Zoo is seeking a Temporary Animal Keeper in the Education Department for a six-month paid position (40 hours per week). The candidate should have excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and a mature attitude to work exclusively with the Animal Ambassadors. This position is responsible to provide husbandry, training, and enrichment; as well as providing public programing to a variety of audiences on zoo grounds with the bulk of the programing occurring during the spring and summer season. Successful candidates must be comfortable speaking to audiences of all ages.

  • Current hours worked: 8:00am to 5:00pm  
  • Hourly rate: $13.00/hr. 
  • Initial Days off: Wednesday-Thursday
  • Position Location: Education Department - Animal Ambassador Team 


Requirements

A minimum of six months of animal care experience at an AZA facility and a four-year degree is preferred. A minimum of three years of progressive work experience is strongly preferred as well as prior show/educational experience. Must be available weekends, holidays, and for a flexible schedule and must be able to meet all other requirements of the job. 

This seasonal six-month assignment is a 40 hour per week position. 

Proof of a current Tetanus shot, and negative TB test needed before start date
