Under the general direction and in communication with the CEO, the CFO is responsible for the financial operations of Gila Regional Medical Center. This includes assuring that the financial statements, governmental and outside financial filings of GRMC comply with state and federal laws and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) pronouncements and accounting and auditing standards.
The CFO is also responsible for financial administration, cash management, budgeting, revenue cycle processes, financial planning and analysis, financial reporting and all other fiscal and financial affairs of GRMC. S/he supports the operational oversight to assigned areas and departments, monitors and evaluates key activities; assure accuracy and meeting deadlines, and mentors/coaches assigned leaders to improve individual and team performance goals and outcomes. S/he serves as a collaborator to CEO and positive representation of Gila Regional Medical Center within GRMC and in the community.
Requirements
- Responsible for supporting all aspects of revenue cycle processes and leading revenue cycle team in weekly meetings at GRMC.
- Works in all ways to positively support and improve the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of GRMC’s approach to patient-centered care, and in serving our caregivers, customer’s and community.

- Is accountable for the achievement of assigned objectives, goals and outcomes.
- Sets the annual budget assumptions for both the operating and capital budgets. Oversees the preparation of the annual operating budgets by department. Works with the Director of Materials Management in developing an annual capital budget. Prepares a budget summary and analysis for presentation to and approval by the Board of Trustees.
- Responsible for the annual audit of the financial statements by an independent CPA firm. Works with the Controller to prepare audit schedules and analysis and to comply with all auditor requests for information.
- Manages the preparation of the annual Medicare and Medicaid cost reports with the Controller. - Ensures that all necessary financial information and data is given to the outside cost report preparer in an accurate and timely manner. Ensures that the Medicare and Medicaid cost reports are accurate and filed with the State of NM and Medicare intermediary on time.
- Performs periodic analysis on the various service lines which GRMC operates and makes reports to the CEO and Board of Trustees as necessary.
- If required, makes Annual Reports to the Bond Insurer and Bond Rating Agency (S&P) and the bond documents as necessary.
- Performs and reports monthly financial analysis to the Finance Committee and Board of Trustees regarding all key financial and statistical results and trends.
- Understanding of and ability to calculate, analyze and verify accuracy of accounts receivable reserves.
- Responsible and understand requirements of and the impact of annual cost report.
- Reviews and performs financial analysis on all major leases and capital equipment acquisitions and participates in developing presentations and recommendations to the Board of Trustees.
- Supervises and oversees all cash management functions including Savings and CD accounts, accounts payable management and payroll checking accounts.
- Responsible for long-term financial planning for both operations and capital planning purposes.
- Participates in the development of financial analysis for new hospital services and service lines under consideration as a part of business development.
- Works with the Corporate Compliance Office/Risk Manager to maintain malpractice and general insurance policies and coverage. This includes worker’s compensation and unemployment insurance coverage.
- Performs all other financially related duties and responsibilities as assigned by CEO of GRMC or the Board of Trustees
- Provides strategic direction and operational and fiscal oversight to assigned Departments, ensuring accountability with goals and directives.
- Works collaboratively to improve departmental and interdepartmental financial and accounting systems and processes to improve key outcomes and efficiency.
- Leads and/ or participates in assigned organizational level committees & project teams.
- Assures compliance with federal, state and local government laws and regulations, accrediting agency standards and hospital policies, procedures, rules and regulations as applicable.
- Participates in strategic planning processes, and the development, implementation, monitoring and achievement of the objectives, goals and action plans within the overall strategic plan.
- Develops and promotes cooperative working relationships with all other - caregivers, departments, Medical Staff, and other customers.
Education & Training Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, required. Master’s Degree (or Master’s Candidate) in Business Administration or Finance required.
- CPA preferred
- Minimum (2) years CFO experience at a Critical Access Hospital/Acute Care Hospital, or
- Minimum five (5) years of experience as a Critical Access Hospital/Acute Care Hospital Controller.
- Minimum of 5 years progressive responsibility in healthcare, including Department Director level responsibilities, and a focus on financial management.
- Proficient and Exceptional presentation, oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient in managing data for identification and management of improvement opportunities.
- Proficient in the use of computer software programs such as Word and Excel; proficiency in Meditech Hospital Information Systems preferred
