We're looking for someone to join our team as a Mobile Unit Operator who:
The Mobile Unit Operator position is responsible for the daily repairs and maintenance required at Clinica Sierra Vista Facilities.
Essential Functions:
- Safely operates Clinica Sierra Vista's mobile unit operates safely, and from clinical sites, community events, service locations, maintenance appointments, fueling stations, storage locations, and other approved destinations.
- Conducts pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the mobile unit, including checking tires, lights, brakes, mirrors, fluid levels, fuel, exterior condition, interior condition, safety equipment, generator readiness, and overall vehicle readiness.
- Ensures the mobile unit is properly parked, leveled, secured, and positioned for safe patient, staff, vendor, and public access.
- Assists with setup and breakdown of mobile clinic operations, including cones, signage, steps, ramps, generators, power connections, awnings, tables, equipment staging, exterior setup, and other operational needs as assigned.
- Supports clinical and dental staff by helping prepare the mobile unit for service delivery, ensuring the space is clean, accessible, safe, organized, and ready for patient care.
- Maintains cleanliness, organization, and basic upkeep of the mobile medical unit, including driver areas, patient-facing areas, clinical support areas, exterior areas, storage compartments, and assigned equipment.
- Maintains a friendly, professional, and visible presence around the mobile unit while helping support safe access, orderly flow, positive patient interactions, and appropriate use of the immediate service area.
- Uses calm communication, situational awareness, and de-escalation techniques when needed to help maintain a safe and respectful environment for patients, staff, vendors, and community members.
- Communicates professionally with patients, community members, clinical staff, dental staff, vendors, site contacts, event organizers, security personnel, and department leadership.
- Assists patients, staff, or visitors with safe boarding, exiting, wayfinding, and access to services while following role limitations and safety procedures.
- Supports individuals with mobility challenges by assisting with ramps, steps, wheelchair securement, mobility devices, or other access-related needs within training and safety guidelines.
- Maintains positive control of the mobile unit, equipment, entry points, traffic flow, and immediate service area by identifying unsafe behavior, access concerns, crowding, trip hazards, weather concerns, traffic flow issues, operational risks and escalating concerns as appropriate.
- Follows all traffic laws, safety protocols, company policies, vehicle operation procedures, mobile unit operating guidelines, and site-specific instructions.
- Coordinates with vendors for fueling, maintenance, repairs, cleaning, equipment service, inspections, and other mobile unit support needs as directed.
- Reports vehicle issues, equipment concerns, maintenance needs, safety risks, damage, supply needs, or operational problems to the appropriate supervisor in a timely manner.
- Maintains vehicle logs, inspection forms, mileage records, fuel receipts, maintenance records, event setup notes, and other required documentation accurately and timely.
- Assists with loading, unloading, securing, and transporting supplies, equipment, signage, event materials, clinical support materials, and mobile unit operational items.
- Supports community events, outreach activities, mobile clinic days, dental service events, health fairs, and special projects by assisting with setup, operational readiness, traffic flow, and site coordination.
- Maintains confidentiality and professionalism when working around patients, clinical services, health information, and community members.
- Responds appropriately to urgent operational issues, unsafe conditions, disruptive behavior, vehicle concerns, weather-related issues, or site access problems, and escalates to leadership, security, emergency services, or appropriate partners when needed.
- Represents Clinica Sierra Vista in a professional, respectful, calm, friendly, and compassionate manner at all service locations and community events.
You'll be successful with the following qualifications:
- Valid California driver's license required with preference for class B.
- Clean driving record required.
- Prior experience operating large vehicles, mobile units, commercial vehicles, buses, paratransit vehicles, or similar vehicles preferred.
- Experience supporting healthcare, dental, community outreach, transportation, security, facilities, emergency response, or public-facing service operations for 1 or more years preferred.
- Ability and willingness to complete de-escalation training, workplace violence prevention training, emergency response training, vehicle safety training, and other required training.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle safety, pre-trip inspections, vehicle maintenance indicators, and safe driving practices.
- Ability to safely assist with setup, breakdown, loading, unloading, lifting, securing equipment, and supporting patients or visitors with mobility needs.
- Strong communication and customer service skills, including the ability to interact professionally with patients, staff, vendors, community partners, and the public.
- Ability to remain friendly, calm, professional, and respectful in stressful, crowded, or challenging environments.
- Ability to maintain situational awareness and identify safety concerns, access concerns, traffic concerns, equipment concerns, or behavioral concerns around the mobile unit.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, complete documentation, and communicate issues in a timely manner.
- Ability to work independently while also supporting clinical, dental, outreach, and operations teams.
- Knowledge and understanding of the mission and role of community health centers preferred.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
