About The Company
Huble, HubSpot’s 2024 global partner of the year, is a global HubSpot, AI, marketing & creative consultancy enabling mid-market and enterprise businesses move faster, adapt smarter, and innovate freely—by building their business around HubSpot’s CRM. Committed to security and quality, Huble has certified compliance with ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and ISO 9001:2015 standards across its seven international businesses and 150+ employees. Boasting almost 15 years of experience and 500+ successful HubSpot CRM implementations, Huble expertly steers clients through digital transformation with offices and consulting teams in the UK, USA, Canada, Germany, France, Belgium, Singapore, and South Africa.
About the Role

Huble is an international, creative, digital business & CRM consultancy with Elite HubSpot Partner status. Using the HubSpot platform, we provide solutions to increase our customers' level of CRM sophistication as well as deliver strategic consultancy across marketing, sales, service, websites, and business operations, all whilst trying to strike a balance between professionalism and being human.

We're looking for a Senior Backend Developer to be Huble's dedicated technical resource for the US pod, reporting to the Head of Back End Development.

This is an individual contributor role, not a people-management role. There is no team to manage. What the role does need is enough architectural experience and judgement to operate without a local backend peer for most of the working day.

You'll be the person US-based Account Directors, Project Managers, and Sales can bring onto a call for a straight answer, and the person Solutions Architects work with directly to make sure a piece of work is properly scoped before it reaches a developer.

You'll split your time between hands-on development, technical scoping, and live client-facing work in US hours. You remain part of Huble's single global Back End Development team.

🚀 Here are a few of the tasks you'll get to work on:

Software Architecture & Technical Delivery

  • Architect and build HubSpot solutions for US pod clients: data migrations, CRM implementations, custom UI extensions, workflows, website development, and API/systems integrations.
  • Write clean, maintainable code across Huble's backend stack, and own your own bug fixes and feature builds end to end.
  • Review API documentation to assess feasibility before committing to a scope.
  • Identify technical risk in a proposed solution early and propose alternatives, rather than surfacing problems after a build has started.
  • Provide code review and QA on US pod work, including work handed over from or to the South Africa team.
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of HubSpot's platform, APIs, and native capabilities, with a focus on where custom development is genuinely needed versus where native functionality already solves the problem.

Scoping & Pre-Sales Support

  • Act as the client-facing technical expert during pre-sales, discovery, and scoping calls in US business hours.
  • Own technical validation of scope for US pod work: translate business requirements into accurate specifications, development hours, and cost estimates.
  • Partner directly with Solutions Architects on scoping, joining early rather than reviewing after the fact. Recurring feedback from the US pod is that requests reaching development are often missing detail. Closing that gap before it becomes a build problem is a core part of this role.
  • Give Sales and Account teams a straight, credible technical read during prospecting and deal-scoping conversations, including where something isn't feasible or needs to be scoped differently.

Client-Facing Technical Delivery

  • Be Huble's live technical presence for US clients: attend client calls, escalations, and discovery sessions during US hours.
  • Provide timely troubleshooting and technical response on live issues without needing to wait for South Africa hours to overlap.
  • Build direct technical credibility and trust with US clients through consistent, visible presence, not just delivered output.

Standards, Quality & Team Connection

  • Follow Huble's Back End Development standards and deployment process in full.
  • Join Back End team routines (stand-ups, architecture discussions, knowledge-sharing) on a regular cadence, even where full daily overlap isn't possible, to stay current with shared standards and avoid drifting into ad hoc practices.
  • Document scope, decisions, and handovers clearly and consistently.
  • Escalate to the Head of Back End Development when something is outside your judgement call, rather than resolving it alone and reporting it after the fact.
  • Feed learnings from US-specific client work back into Huble's broader Back End practices.

🏗️ To excel in this role, you should have the following:

  • 8+ years as a Backend Developer, including demonstrable experience owning architecture decisions rather than only executing a pre-defined spec.
  • Comfortable operating with autonomy, ideally with prior experience working remotely from the core of a team (distributed or asynchronous team experience is a plus).
  • Proven experience scoping and costing technical work, including translating ambiguous client requirements into a concrete SOW.
  • Comfortable pushing back on Project Managers or other stakeholders when a timeline, scope change, or shortcut compromises best practice, rather than deferring just to keep things moving.
  • Experience being client-facing as a technical expert: this role is expected to be on client and prospect calls regularly, not occasionally.
  • Strong proficiency with RESTful APIs and GraphQL, and the ability to design, consume, and validate them.
  • PHP 7 / PHP 5 (5+ years): strong understanding of PHP, able to write clean, efficient, maintainable code.
  • Symfony 7 / 6 / 5 or similar frameworks: solid understanding of modern PHP frameworks.
  • HTML5 (5+ years): strong understanding of semantic, standards-based HTML, adhering to Huble's Front-End standards.
  • JavaScript (4+ years): strong working knowledge, able to use JS libraries and plugins effectively.
  • Node.js (2-3 years): experience building scalable backend services, async programming, REST APIs, and third-party integrations.
  • React (2+ years): advantageous for supporting front-end React features.
  • iPaaS (2+ years): experience designing integrations using platforms like n8n.io, Boomi, or Workato, including integration patterns, orchestration, and error handling.
  • In-depth knowledge of HubSpot's products and APIs, with a focus on custom extensions and integrations.
  • Understanding of architectural patterns such as component-based design, state management, and integration architecture.
  • Extensive experience with development tools, build systems, version control, and CI/CD pipelines.

⚡️ These personal qualities are key to your success:

  • Genuinely comfortable working autonomously. This role doesn't have a local backup for most of the day, and that needs to sound appealing, not stressful.
  • Strong written communication. Documentation carries more weight here than on a fully co-located team.
  • Excellent communication skills across clients, prospects, and internal stakeholders at every level.
  • Sound commercial judgement: understands the cost of over-promising scope and the cost of under-scoping it.
  • Confident in giving a client or prospect a direct technical answer live, including when the answer is "no" or "not like that."
  • Proactive about escalating early rather than absorbing risk quietly.
  • Strong attention to detail, given that this role is often the last technical check before something reaches a client commitment.
  • Genuine interest in staying connected to a team you're not physically near, rather than treating distance as a reason to drift from shared standards.

🛣️ Interview Process:

  • Video Interview (15 min)
  • 1st Interview (30 min)
  • Assessment
  • Presentation Interview (60 min)
  • Final Interview (30 min)
