About the Role

Ko tōu ake mahi - What you’ll do

Are you passionate about improving health outcomes across the Pacific and making a meaningful impact at a regional level? This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of the Polynesian Health Corridors programme, supporting Polynesian countries to strengthen their health systems and tackle the growing challenge of non-communicable diseases. Working alongside a diverse network of partners, stakeholders and country representatives, you'll provide expert advice, lead strategic initiatives, and help deliver programmes that contribute to healthier communities and more equitable health outcomes across the region.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide expert leadership and advice to support the implementation of the Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Pillar programme plan, working closely with Polynesian countries, regional partners, stakeholders, and suppliers.

  • Lead the planning and delivery of health system strengthening initiatives, with a particular focus on non-communicable diseases, including cancer control and mental health.

  • Support commissioning activities across the NCD Pillar, including procurement processes, contract management, supplier engagement, and ensuring effective delivery of agreed outcomes.

  • Drive programme performance and continuous improvement by contributing to monitoring, evaluation, reporting, and the development of tools, frameworks and processes that support successful programme delivery.

  • Build strong and collaborative relationships across government agencies, the health sector, regional partners and communities, ensuring all work supports equity objectives and upholds Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations.

Ko ngā pūkenga ōu - What you’ll bring

  • Relevant experience and/or qualifications in public health, health systems, Pacific health, international development, mental health, cancer control, or a related discipline.

  • Strong understanding of non-communicable disease programmes and health system strengthening, with experience leading initiatives from design through to implementation, monitoring and evaluation.

  • Knowledge of Pacific public health and the health and development challenges facing Polynesian countries, including connections with Pasifika communities in New Zealand.

  • Proven ability to provide high-quality advice, apply critical thinking, exercise sound judgement, and manage competing priorities while delivering results.

  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and tailor messages for different audiences.
