About The Company
UGL Regional Linx was established in 2021, after parent company, UGL Limited was selected to deliver operations and maintenance of rail infrastructure for the Country Regional Network (CRN). This network ensures the safe movement of people and goods throughout the regions of NSW, and links Sydney with many important regional centres. UGL Regional Linx commenced operations on January 30 2022 and works on behalf of the client, Transport for NSW (TfNSW) and will be responsible for managing an important network of assets. As part of its operation, UGL Regional Linx’s scope of work includes: • Network operations • Rail infrastructure maintenance and implementation of a new train control system - UGL’s proprietary system, Sigview. • Asset and property management, and • Safety, access, performance, and environmental management. UGL Regional Linx has made a strong commitment to local and indigenous employment, further strengthening the organisation’s commitment to regional NSW. As part of its operations, UGL Regional Linx established its head office and Network Control Centre in the heart of the Central West, Orange, NSW. The CRN network includes: • 2,386 route kilometres of operational passenger and freight rail lines, including 996 km of branch line track used predominantly for haulage of grain, with lower mass and speed limits than other parts of the network • 3,139 route kilometres of non-operational lines • 27,000 hectares of land and infrastructure • 1,312 level crossings (300 active) • 1,200 property assets (including 356 heritage sites) • 600 rail under bridges and 384 road overbridges The CRN is a crucial piece of infrastructure to regional NSW and UGL Regional Linx is committed to ensure that it delivers for all customers, from rail passengers to farmers and industry.

UGL provides engineering, construction, and maintenance services across industries including oil and gas, power, renewables, resources, water, defence, and telecommunications, in a fast-paced and ever-evolving environment.

Logan Gold Coast Faster Rail (LGCFR) Project is a major South East Queensland infrastructure program that will transform rail travel between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Delivered by the ActivUs Alliance, the project will increase the corridor from two to four tracks between Kuraby and Beenleigh and significantly upgrade stations, systems, and community connectivity.

About the role

Based in Brisbane, this role will plan, coordinate and lead the project team to deliver the HV Traction Power works safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with CPB guidelines and quality standards. The role supports the Project Manager and acts on their behalf as required to ensure effective project delivery

Key responsibilities

  • Planning, maintaining, coordinating and monitoring construction programs and completion of activities involved in Project/s, and communicating on same with relevant stakeholders

  • Organising, designing and implementing temporary works and infrastructure, as required

  • Preparing work packages, documentation and quality requirements for tender by potential subcontractors

  • Evaluating subcontractors to ensure capacity and capability to carry out the work

  • Informing the Project Manager on any significant SH&E, quality or other difficulties which will impact Project delivery or community relations and taking appropriate action to rectify

  • Guiding and instructing others in essential aspects of quality management

  • Assist in the preparation of project budgets and cost to complete and processing of subcontractor and supplier progress claims.

  • Establishing regular reports on technical, systems and productivity performances to the Project Manager

  • Ensure the effective management and handover of all site works, in accordance with documented procedures, programs, project plans, drawings and specifications.

  • Provide coaching and create training opportunities to foster professional growth while ensuring the team remains aligned with project objectives

  • Lead, demonstrate and educate subcontractors to embrace a work environment free from discrimination, where everyone is included and treated with respect.

  • Developing alignment between team capability and function’s business objectives

About You

  • Either a recognised degree in engineering discipline recognised OR other relevant tertiary qualification

  • Member of Institution of Engineers Australia (IEAust)or graduate member of the Institute of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) desirable

  • Relevant Rail Industry Worker competencies

  • Demonstrated experience as a Senior Project Engineer. Proven ability to lead Traction Power projects and manage technical challenges within project timelines and budgets.

  • Proven experience in managing engineering deliverables, coordinating with stakeholders and driving project outcomes

  • Experience managing people and processes to ensure compliance with relevant Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) standards

  • Strong commercial acumen and experience with managing budgets. Competent in developing and implementing risk treatment plans and cost management plans.
