About the Role

Electronic Trainee – Bollinger Bootcamp

Department: Workforce Development / Bootcamp
 Reports To: Workforce Development Manager / Director of Talent Management
 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary

The Electrical Trainee participates in a structured workforce development training program designed to prepare individuals for entry-level employment as an Electronic Technician. Electronic Trainees receive classroom instruction and hands-on laboratory training as well as practical experience in electrical and electronic fundamentals, marine communication systems, navigation equipment, cable installation, electronic testing and troubleshooting techniques.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend all scheduled classroom instruction, laboratory exercises, and hands-on electronic training.
  • Follow all OSHA, company and shipyard safety policies and procedures.
  • Learn basic electrical and electronic theory including AC/DC circuits and electronic components.
  • Identify and safely use electrical hand tools, power tools and electronic test equipment.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints and technical manuals.
  • Learn proper cable routing, wire termination, connector installation, and labeling techniques.
  • Assist with the installation, testing, and maintenance of shipboard electronic systems.
  • Perform basic continuity, voltage, resistance, and signal testing using multimeters and other diagnostic equipment.
  • Learn proper grounding, bonding, and electronic system installation practices.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Work effectively as part of a team.
  • Accept coaching and constructive feedback from instructors and supervision.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, dependability and a positive attitude.
  • Successfully complete required written exams, practical evaluations and safety assessments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to read, write and understand basic English.
  • Basic math skills, including fractions, decimals, measurements, and basic algebra.
  • Electrical or Electronic Apprenticeship, Trade School, Military Electrical or Electronic Program, or equivalent preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong attention to detail, work ethic and reliability.
  • Willingness to learn new technical skills.
  • Ability to work safely in an industrial environment.
  • Effective communication skills, including ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Mechanical aptitude is preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods, climb ladders/scaffolding, lift up to 50 pounds, and safely operate electrical tools and testing equipment.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, climb, crawl and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work at heights.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.
