About the Role

Description

Join us to shape communities, collaborate with passionate professionals, and grow with a company that invests in your success, where you’re not just an Employee but an Owner.

About Our Firm

Since 1968, NTH Consultants, Ltd. has been a critical part of the infrastructure engineering and environmental services that strengthen our communities and protect our ecosystem. From geotechnical engineering and environmental consulting to structural design and construction management, electric power engineering, and beyond, we provide solutions that support the success and sustainability of projects.

When you join NTH, you’ll gain more than a job- you’ll become part of a team that values your career, your growth, and your life. We are committed to providing a flexible and supportive environment, professional development opportunities, and a vibrant culture that celebrates collaboration and innovation. Our culture is built on accountability, ownership, inclusion, integrity, safety, and excellence.

How This Role is Unique

NTH is seeking an early- to mid-career Electrical Power Systems Engineer for a key position in our newly formed Electrical Engineering Power and Utilities Division. This position is intended to be based out of our Grand Rapids office, with potential for an experienced and independent candidate to work out of our Northville, Livonia, or Lansing offices.

This is not purely a desk-based role. There will be opportunities to visit utility, industrial, renewable, and construction sites to collect field data, support testing and commissioning, troubleshoot electrical systems, and see how designs perform in the real world.  We expect this role to be approximately 80% office-based and 20% field-based, with most travel consisting of short-term assignments within lower Michigan.

This is a ground-floor opportunity to help build NTH’s Electrical Engineering Power and Utilities Division. The right candidate will gain broad exposure to design, studies, field investigations, testing, troubleshooting, client interaction, and project delivery across multiple types of electrical power projects.

· Work safely and follow customer and NTH safety programs in industrial, utility, and construction field environments.

· Prepare and review contract documents, designs, and specifications for electrical power projects including electrical distribution, electrical substations, electrical generation, and renewable energy.

· Prepare technical proposals, cost estimates, plans, technical specifications, and reports, including day to day correspondence.

· Size, specify, and review approvals for a variety of electrical equipment.

· Perform a variety of engineering analyses, calculations, and modeling with and without the use of engineering software including Load flow, voltage drop, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, and grounding.

· Travel independently to customer sites and provide field engineering services, support, and troubleshooting.

· Prepare documentation and test reports summarizing electrical testing activities, results, and recommendations.

· Support electrical CAD design and electrical CAD standards work in a secondary role.

· Work closely and coordinate design with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers.

· Support development of design standards and standard operating procedures.

· Be an early member of the NTH Electrical Division, with high potential for skill and career growth, mentorship, and impact on division culture.
