POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Mobility Equipment Manager oversees the operations, installation, service, and quality control of adaptive mobility equipment used in wheelchair-accessible vehicles. This includes lifts, securement systems, hand controls, transfer seating, and other ADA-compliant driving aids and accessibility solutions. This role is critical to ensuring the safety, reliability, and performance of mobility equipment installations and services delivered to end users, dealers, and fleet partners. The ideal candidate brings strong technical knowledge, leadership experience, and a passion for customer-focused accessibility solutions. 

Requirements

 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Operations & Workflow Management 

  • Lead day-to-day operations related to mobility equipment installation, inspection, troubleshooting, and service. 
  • Oversee scheduling, workload balancing, and prioritization of work orders across internal teams or partner technicians. 
  • Ensure compliance with equipment specifications, ADA standards, and OEM vehicle guidelines. 

Team Leadership & Development 

  • Supervise and develop a team of mobility technicians, installers, and support staff. 
  • Train team members on installation procedures, diagnostic techniques, and safety protocols. 
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, promote professional development, and support certification efforts (e.g., QAP, NMEDA standards). 

Customer & Dealer Support 

  • Act as a key technical resource for mobility-related inquiries from customers, dealers, and internal sales teams. 
  • Assist in resolving escalated service issues and warranty concerns quickly and professionally. 
  • Provide technical support and training to external dealer partners as needed. 

Quality & Compliance 

  • Ensure that all equipment installations and retrofits meet or exceed safety, compliance, and quality standards. 
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all service and installation records. 
  • Conduct internal audits and lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality and reduce rework or failure rates. 

Product & Inventory Coordination 

  • Coordinate with Purchasing and Inventory teams to ensure availability of key mobility equipment components and spare parts. 
  • Track warranty trends, common service issues, and product improvement opportunities. 
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Product teams to evaluate new equipment offerings and validate installation feasibility. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical certification in Automotive Technology, Electrical Systems, or Mechanical Engineering preferred. 
  • 5+ years of experience in mobility equipment installation, vehicle upfitting, or adaptive equipment services, with at least 2 years in a leadership role. 
  • Deep understanding of wheelchair lifts, securement systems, hand controls, and mobility driving aids. 
  • Familiarity with ADA, FMVSS, and NHTSA standards. 
  • Experience managing teams in a service, technical, or production environment. 
  • Excellent problem-solving and customer service skills. 
  • Comfortable reading schematics, interpreting technical manuals, and using diagnostic tools. 
  • Certifications from NMEDA, QAP, or BraunAbility/Bruno/Veigel/Handy Tech preferred.
