JOB PURPOSE:

The Senior Software Engineer is a technical leader responsible for architecting, developing, and delivering innovative software solutions that support AF’s long-term vision of becoming a technology-first provider of insurance industry services. This role combines deep technical expertise with strategic thinking to design scalable, maintainable, and user-friendly systems across web-based and business-to-business platforms.
As a key contributor, the Senior Software Engineer not only builds high-impact solutions but also mentors team members, influences architectural decisions, and drives engineering best practices. Their work directly contributes to operational efficiency and cost savings by automating manual processes and enabling smarter, data-driven workflows. This role is instrumental in aligning technology with business goals and ensuring the long-term success of AF’s digital transformation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Define and evolve enterprise-scale system architectures, driving high cohesion, modularity, and API design standards.
- Lead security initiatives: threat modeling, secure architecture reviews, remediation planning, and collaboration on compliance audits.
- Champion performance engineering: establish profiling workflows, capacity-planning practices, and proactive tuning across distributed environments.
- Architect and enforce engineering excellence: coding standards, automated testing strategies (unit, integration, contract), CI/CD pipelines, and release orchestration.
- Design and operate fault-tolerant, self-healing systems; build observability frameworks and lead on-call rotations and incident management.
- Facilitate Agile transformation: coach Scrum/Kanban teams, run sprint ceremonies, drive backlog prioritization, and instill continuous improvement mindsets.
- Integrate AI capabilities into development lifecycles: leverage AI-assisted coding tools, automate testing with ML, and apply intelligent monitoring for anomaly detection.
- Mentor and guide other engineers on architecture, coding practices, and career growth; host regular technical reviews and brown-bag sessions.
- Partner with Product, Security, SRE, and DevOps to align roadmaps, drive end-to-end solutions, and evaluate emerging technologies.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 8+ years of professional software development experience with significant involvement in system and solution architecture.
- Expert proficiency in one or more modern languages (e.g., Java, C#, Python, Go, or JavaScript/TypeScript).
- Proven track record designing and operating containerized workloads (Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure as code (Terraform, Pulumi, ARM).
- Hands-on experience identifying and mitigating security risks using OWASP, SAST/DAST tools, and zero-trust principles.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices, event-driven architectures, and messaging platforms.
- Proficiency with observability stacks (Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK) and major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Demonstrated success leading Agile teams using tools like Jira, Azure DevOps, or GitHub Projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline.
- Industry certifications (CISSP, AWS Solutions Architect – Professional, Google Cloud Architect).
- Experience in regulated or security-sensitive domains (finance, healthcare, defense).
- Background in real-time, low-latency systems (trading platforms, gaming engines).
- Contributions to open-source projects or published technical papers.
- Experience in the insurance industry, especially in auto claims processing systems or related domains.
