POSITION SUMMARY

The Community Life Manager is responsible for the oversight of day-to-day operation, safety, and guest services of the shelter environment. This role oversees facility safety and cleanliness, check-in processes, administrative support functions, and coordination of program activities and services. The Manager ensures a safe, orderly, and welcoming environment for participants, visitors, staff, and volunteers while supporting the Mission’s purpose of serving households experiencing homelessness and housing instability.


This position combines operational oversight of program activities with front-line guest services responsibilities including intake support, communication, record management, and coordination with internal departments. The Manager works closely peer leaders and the Director to ensure Bridge Program operations run efficiently and participants are supported with dignity and respect.


RESPONSIBILITIES

General

  • Responsible for the security and safety of the facility, participants, staff, and visitors during assigned shifts.
  • Ensures the facility remains free from drugs, alcohol, weapons, or other hazards that jeopardize the Mission or its guests.
  • Handles guest interactions professionally while maintaining a safe environment.
  • Responds to emergencies and contacts first responders when necessary.
  • Maintains a visible presence throughout the facility during shifts.
  • Greets participants, visitors, and donors and ensures all individuals are checked in appropriately.
  • Helps maintain an environment where participants feel safe and are encouraged to pursue next steps toward stability.
  • Ensures delivery of basic services according to established policies and schedules.
  • Coordinates with other departments such as Kitchen, Maintenance, IT, and Operations to support daily operational needs.
  • Monitor the cleanliness and maintenance of the facility to established standards. Collaborate with other teams to make corrections as identified.
  • Maintains and tracks inventory of supplies used in daily operations.
  • Ensures scheduled activities and services occur on time.
  • Maintains operational knowledge of facility systems including fire alarms, utilities shut-offs and building systems.
  • Inputs maintenance and IT requests when needed. 
  • Maintains confidentiality when handling guest or organizational information.
  • Works with supervisors to ensure proper staffing coverage and scheduling needs.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the Director.

Leadership and Supervision of Staff

  • Assists the Director with recruiting, interviewing, hiring; Supervises onboarding, training, resolving conflict, payroll, scheduling and time off to provide appropriate coverage, and quarterly reviews for staff on the Community Life Supervisor team. 
  • Supervises the operations of Community Life Supervisors to meet the needs of the facility during their shift.
  • Provides feedback to the Director regarding opportunities for improvement in the Bridge Programs.
  • Develops, reviews, and implements processes and procedures relevant to the Community Life team functions. 
  • Works closely with other Managers and Supervisors to address programmatic or operational concerns.
  • Manages relationships with volunteers or community organizations that support Bridge Program activities.  

WORK CONDITIONS

  • Occasional lifting up to 35 pounds, bending, and climbing stairs.
  • Frequent interaction with individuals experiencing homelessness, addiction, mental illness, and other complex challenges.
  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases.
  • Work is performed in a high-traffic environment with frequent interruptions.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s of Arts or comparable degree in Business, Education, Hospitality, or related field. 
  • Relevant experience in social services, shelter operations, customer service, or a related field required. 
  • Relevant experience working with individuals and/or families with children in a programmatic setting preferred.
  • A combination of education and experience may be substituted.
  • Previous successful people and process management experience preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CPR certification within 90 days of hire (training provided).
  • Mandatory Reporter Training required within 30 days of hire (training provided)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and database systems.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful or high-pressure situations.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Active Driver’s License as a limited amount of work-related travel may be required.
  • Must be a Christian holding to the beliefs set forth in the Statement of Faith, expressed by a personal testimony and Christian conduct.
