Summary

The porter assists with lot activity in transport and can support the detailer, other staff, mechanics or car washer if needed. The New or Used Car Sales departments Porters primarily move vehicles around the dealership lot and retrieve vehicles for customers when service is complete in a safe and orderly manner among other errand duties.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Perform opening duties: open gates, unlock doors, turn on lights for showroom, sweep around building.
  • Keep front lot filled with the appropriate inventory as directed by the Sales Director.
  • Keep all lots organized according to the plan set forth by Sales Director.
  • Move inventory regularly to prevent flat spots and dead batteries.
  • Locate vehicles and inspect for outgoing dealer trade/inspect incoming dealer trades; take incoming trades to the make-ready department.
  • Jump dead batteries, gas and clean vehicles when needed.
  • Move cars blocking driving lanes.
  • Re-organize lot as directed.
  • Locate vehicles not found during inventory count.
  • Identify vehicles that have lot damage and alert the Manager or Sales Director.
  • Identify stock inventory missing equipment and alert the Manager or Sales Director.
  • Deliver water cases to the showroom and other Sales locations every morning, filling all refrigerators with water bottles.
  • Keep delivery bay clean/stocked for new car touch ups/quick fix.
  • Maintain clean building surroundings.
  • Perform various other duties as requested.

Requirements

Preferred Qualifications 

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 4 years clear driving record- No previous DUI history or moving violations
  • Previous porter/courier/valet experience helpful
  • High level of dependability and confidentiality
  • Cautious driver
  • Valid driver’s license

Work Environment

This job operates in various types of vehicles and business environments that may include loud noises, odors or weather conditions. Driving is mostly during the day but could be required to drive in low light condition.

Physical Demands

Safely drive a variety of vehicles in inclement weather or road conditions, load and unload packages up to 30 lbs., following established motor vehicle rules and laws. May sit, walk, or stand for long periods of time in all weather and temperature conditions. Handles minor vehicle repairs: battery changes, tire repairs, cleaning. Repetitive use of arms and legs and moving the whole body such as standing, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, reaching, pushing, grasping, hearing, seeing, and talking.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 9 p.m. Evening, Holiday and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

This position requires some extended travel beyond delivery areas. 

Valid driver's license is required, and all applicants must be willing to submit to a drug screen and background check prior to employment.
