PRIMARY FUNCTION:
TK Specialist work with members in grades TK-Kindergarten and sometimes 1st grade at the Boys & Girls Clubs Hansberger Clubhouse. Our TK Youth Leaders make a positive impact in a child’s life every single day. TK Specialist are role models and mentors. Together with their team, they work to foster the 5 key elements of Boys & Girls Clubs: A Safe, Positive Environment, A Sense of Belonging, Fun, Opportunities and Expectations, and Recognition. (This is a contracted position partnering with Redlands Unified School District staff to work on the school calendar schedule.)
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Prepare Youth for Success
- Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development
Outcomes:
- Promote and stimulate program participation with members.
- Provide guidance and role modeling to members.
- Provide homework help
Program Implementation
- Effectively implement and administer services and activities for students.
- Ensure the safety of students is considered when implementing programs and activities.
- Ensure program space/area is organized and cleaned during and after use.
Supervision of Youth
- Provide guidance, affirm positive behavior and act as a role model and mentor to youth.
- Provide a safe environment through active supervision, setting clear expectations and maintaining clean program areas.
- Never leave members unsupervised and implement and follow School behavioral guidelines.
Professionalism
- Ensure a productive work environment by participating in staff meetings as required by the supervisor or senior staff.
- Maintain a good reputation and moral conduct outside of work, in the community and on social media networks.
- Adhere to organizational policies and procedures as described in the organization’s Employee Handbook, Staff Code of Ethics, and elsewhere.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. May participate in special programs and/or events.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.
External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- High School diploma or GED, required.
- Degree in Childhood Education or 48 Early Childhood Education credits, required or a passing score on the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) test.
- Knowledge of youth development stages, is required.
- Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Ability to plan and implement quality activities for youth.
- Ability to organize and supervise youth in a safe environment.
- Candidates must be 18 years or older.
- Valid State Driver License or California ID card.
- Must clear TB, Drug Screen and Fingerprint check.
- CPR & First Aid Certifications within 90 of hire.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, carts, sports equipment, etc. and reach overhead. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and multi-task. The job requires about 85% walking and/or standing, and 15% sitting. This position will be in-person working at a Club House. Exposure to noise. Will work inside and outside.
