Packing Lead

Position summary
Own the outbound gate. Run final inspection, lacing, cleaning, boxing and shipping so that what leaves the dock matches the order and matches the standard.
Essential functions
- Run the final quality gate. Every pair is inspected against the standard before it goes in a box.
- Verify pair match, size stamp, style, box label and carton contents against the order.
- Sequence packing against the ship schedule and the carrier cutoff.
- Control heel pad, insole, lace, tissue and box inventory. Raise a shortage before it stops shipping.
- Run returns triage: inspect, grade and route any returned pair into repair, recommerce or scrap.
- Maintain the outbound defect log and take it back to the department that caused the defect.
Requirements
Minimum qualifications
- Three or more years in packing, shipping or final inspection.
- Able to read an order, a pick ticket and a carrier manifest.
- Willing to stop a shipment. That is the entire job. A Packing Lead who never rejects anything is not inspecting.
Physical requirements and work environment
This position works on the production floor. Standing and walking for most of the shift. Occasional lifting up to 30 pounds. Repetitive use of hands. Hearing and eye protection required in designated areas. Steel-toe footwear required on the production floor. Reasonable accommodation is available to qualified individuals with disabilities.
How performance is measured
Shipping accuracy. Defects that escape to the customer. Missed carrier cutoffs.
