About the Role

Position summary

Own finished appearance. Run heel attach, edge trim, sealing, inking and the final cosmetic inspection so that the boot leaving Making matches the sample.


Essential functions

  • Set and hold the edge trim profile to the sample. A trim line that drifts across a lot ships an inconsistent lot.
  • Supervise heel nailing and attach. Verify holding strength and seat.
  • Control sealer, ink, stain and finish application for color match across the pair and across the lot.
  • Run the final cosmetic inspection gate before Packing.
  • Maintain the finish sample library and the approved color standards by brand and by style.
  • Train and certify finishers. Maintain the department skill matrix.

Requirements

Minimum qualifications

  • Five or more years in footwear finishing, hands-on capable on edge trim and finish application.
  • Color judgment. Able to match and to reject a mismatched pair by eye against a standard.
  • Able to set and maintain trimming and finishing equipment.

Physical requirements and work environment

This position works on the production floor. Standing for the full shift on a concrete floor. Occasional lifting up to 40 pounds; frequent lifting up to 20 pounds. Repetitive use of hands, wrists and arms. Exposure to leather dust, adhesive vapor and machine noise. Hearing protection, eye protection and steel-toe footwear are required. Reasonable accommodation is available to qualified individuals with disabilities. This position involves routine exposure to adhesives, solvents and finishing chemicals. Respirator fit-testing and chemical-handling training are provided and required.
