City Market, Onion River Co-op, is a community-owned food cooperative with two locations in beautiful Burlington, Vermont. We offer a large selection of local, organic and conventional foods, and thousands of Vermont-made products. Our Downtown and South End stores are open daily. City Market provides a critical service to the residents of Burlington and the larger community by providing local, organic, and conventional foods, as well as thousands of Vermont products, at a fair price to all. We also offer a hot and cold food bar, grab and go meals, coffee and tea, a made-to-order sandwich bar, and a deli. The Co-op is also dedicated to supporting the local economy and enhancing the sustainability of agriculture. We work with over 1,000 Vermont vendors to feature the widest selection of local products in the state. 73% of the vendors we do business with are located in Vermont and over 60 cents of every dollar in sales stays here in Vermont. We are Member-owned, so the profits generated by Co-op Members are returned to our Members (in profitable years) through our Patronage Refund program. Additionally, as a Co-op, we offer Members the opportunity to do Member Work in exchange for a discount. This Member Work is done with our non-profit community partners, providing them with much needed volunteer help. About the Role

Starting Wage: $18.19/hour

Department: Prepared Foods

Reports To: Prepared Foods Management

Location: All City Market Locations

Union Position UE Local 203: Non-exempt, Grade 2

 

Summary

City Market Co-Op is seeking General Staff for our Prepared Foods Department! As a member of the team, you will support the Co-Op by ensuring that all food preparation, display and eating areas are well stocked and cleaned, while offering exceptional customer service.

Day-to-Day Duties

  • Maintaining appropriate stocking and sanitation for all food service production, display and eating areas.
  • Creating the highest quality product using approved recipes and cooking techniques.
  • Assisting customers in a prompt and friendly manner.
  • Compliance with established City Market procedures and practices regarding operations, sales, safety, and security.
  • May be required to perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Six months of work experience required.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn. 
  • Knowledge of natural and conventional foods and the food industry helpful.
