Job Summary:
The Engineering Technician provides technical support to the Engineering Department by assisting with the development, testing, installation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of manufacturing equipment, tooling, products, and processes. This position works collaboratively with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Manufacturing, and Facilities to support safe, efficient, and reliable manufacturing operations while ensuring compliance with company quality standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Engineering Project Support
Provide technical support to Design and Manufacturing Engineers by assisting with engineering projects, product development, manufacturing process improvements, and continuous improvement initiatives. Perform engineering testing, including Design of Experiments (DOE), product validation, and process verification, while accurately collecting, analyzing, and maintaining test data. Complete design work as assigned, including creating and revising CAD models, engineering drawings, work instructions, and other technical documentation. Ensure all engineering activities, testing results, equipment modifications, and process changes are documented in accordance with the company's Quality Management System (QMS).
Equipment Build, Installation & Commissioning
Fabricate, assemble, and install engineering equipment, tooling, fixtures, prototypes, and test equipment from engineering specifications. Install, commission, verify, and document the operation of new or modified manufacturing equipment to ensure readiness for production. Assist with facility and equipment layout changes and support manufacturing process improvements that increase safety, quality, productivity, and operational efficiency.
Equipment Reliability & Triage
Evaluate manufacturing equipment to determine operating status, troubleshoot equipment performance issues, and make appropriate adjustments or corrections within established procedures to restore normal operation. Coordinate with Manufacturing personnel and the Facilities Technician to resolve equipment issues, communicate equipment status, and minimize production downtime. Escalate complex equipment or process issues to Engineering with documented findings and recommendations for corrective action or long-term improvements.
Continuous Improvement & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve equipment reliability, manufacturing efficiency, product quality, workplace safety, and cost effectiveness. Support root cause investigations and corrective action activities while collaborating effectively with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Manufacturing, Maintenance, and other cross-functional teams to achieve departmental and organizational objectives.
Quality, Documentation & Compliance
Perform all work in compliance with company safety policies, quality standards, and applicable regulatory requirements while maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment. Maintain accurate engineering documentation, records, and reports to support quality objectives, project requirements, and operational excellence. Travel to company facilities, suppliers, or customer locations as required, perform other duties as assigned, and consistently demonstrate Wasco's Core Values in all work activities and interactions.
Requirements
MINIMUM EDUCATION
Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Technology, or a related technical field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
MIN EXPERIENCE
Two years of experience in a manufacturing or engineering support environment preferred.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
· Technical aptitude with strong mechanical troubleshooting skills.
· Proficiency with CAD software and solid modeling (Autodesk Inventor preferred).
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
· Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and technical documentation.
· Knowledge of manufacturing processes, engineering documentation, and quality management systems (QMS).
· Engineering testing, data collection, and analysis skills.
· Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
· Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to data integrity.
· Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
· Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
