Position Title: After School Counselor


Supervisor: Chief Youth Engagement Officer


Job Type: Part-Time (17.5 hours weekly), Hourly

Duties and Responsibilities:


Supervision & Safety

  • Supervise children in a safe, positive, and inclusive environment. 
  • Ensure the safety of children, staff, and facilities. 
  • Encourage appropriate behavior through positive reinforcement and consistent program expectations.
  • Maintain appropriate staff-to-child ratios and respond to emergencies as needed. 

Program Delivery & Operations

  •  Assist the Lead Counselor and/or Director with daily program activities and operations.
  •  Actively engage with children to foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive environment.
  •  Prepare activity areas, materials, snacks, and assist with field trips and special events.
  •  Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming environment.
  •  Protect participant confidentiality and complete required documentation.

Team Collaboration & Communication

  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with staff, children, families, and volunteers. 
  • Share relevant information with team members to ensure continuity of care and supervision. 
  • Contribute to a positive, supportive, and solution-oriented team environment.
  • Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities. 

Mission & Culture

  • Support and uphold the YWCA mission, values, and policies.
  • Represent the YWCA professionally within the community.
  • Comply with YWCA policies and procedures.
  • Support a collaborative, inclusive, and welcoming environment for children, families, and staff.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required. 
  • Experience working with school-age children in a childcare, education, recreation, or youth development setting preferred. 
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification within a designated timeframe. 
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and basic computer skills. 
  • Ability to supervise and positively engage children, exercise sound judgment, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team. 
  • Reliable, flexible, and available to work the assigned after-school schedule. 
  • Demonstrates professionalism and a commitment to the YWCA's mission, including fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and equitable environment for all participants, families, and staff.

Pay Information:

  • $15.00 hourly

Schedule:

  • 17.5 hours weekly
  • Monday – Friday; 3:00pm – 6:30pm
