Platform Lead

Deep Blue Company (DBC) - an innovative Australian scale-up reimagining the experience in the 'sale to settlement' for residential property buyers, sellers and real estate agents across Australia. Our group of brands includes Conveyancing.com.au, First Class Legal and bytherules - three leading Property Law firms.

We're looking for a Platform Lead to support our software engineering teams by driving platform architecture, engineering excellence, and technical leadership. In this role, you'll design and build scalable backend and edge systems using the Cloudflare ecosystem while leading and mentoring a team of Backend/QA Engineers.

Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, you'll be responsible for strengthening platform security, improving code quality, and evolving our SDLC through automated testing and quality-driven engineering practices.You'll also help the team leverage AI-powered development tools to accelerate delivery while maintaining exceptional standards for security, reliability, and maintainability.

You will be responsible for: 

• Architecting and developing core backend/edge systems using the Cloudflare ecosystem.
• Managing, coaching, and supporting the career progression of backend and QA engineers through regular 1:1s.
• Owning platform system architecture, code security (managing exploits), and continuous quality improvement.
• Working with QA to build out robust SDLC practices, including automated e2e tests and structured manual verification scenarios.
• Equipping the team with AI code harnesses and inference tools while maintaining exceptional quality standards for all deliverables, regardless of whether code is AI-generated.

Your required experience and skills:

Our Platform Lead will contribute to a variety of projects so we are seeking a candidate that can 
demonstrate:

• Proven experience leading and mentoring high-performing engineering teams, fostering collaboration, growth, and delivery excellence.
• Strong expertise in backend and edge-native development using the Cloudflare ecosystem (Workers, Durable Objects, D1, R2, KV, Workers AI).
• Advanced proficiency in TypeScript and modern API architecture, with experience building secure, scalable, and maintainable services.
• Working knowledge of modern full-stack technologies, including Nuxt, Tailwind CSS, and authentication frameworks.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and automation using GitHub Actions and scripting tools.
• Demonstrated success in designing secure, multi-tenant platforms with a strong focus on system architecture, performance, and code quality.
• Passion for driving engineering best practices, including automated testing, SDLC improvements, and continuous quality assurance.
• Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools while maintaining rigorous engineering, security, and quality standards.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business outcomes.
