About the Role

Description

At Hi-Way Paving, we are general contractors in the construction field that specialize in significant amounts of concrete paving, storm drainage, and excavation on highways and airfields.


We are looking for a Quality Control Technician (QC Tech) to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with Hi-Way's job-site leadership to ensure top-quality concrete paving mixes and results. You’ll review procedures, plans, and outcomes, as well as monitor and collaborate with external QC contractors and partners.


As a key player in maintaining high-quality standards, you’ll help deliver outstanding concrete paving results by coordinating with both internal teams and external partners. This position will require travel between project locations, including Charlotte, NC, Nashville, TN, and other future sites, to support our slip-form concrete paving operations.


What You'll Do:

  • Assist the QC Manager in preparing mix designs at on-site or off-site labs.
  • Ensure daily compliance with QC/QA plans for paving and other materials.
  • Review and improve testing procedures and documentation.
  • Summarize QC/QA results in a clear format for executive management.
  • Review project specifications for materials, placement, tolerances, and payment structures.
  • Work closely with batch plant and production teams to maintain quality.
  • Develop relationships with Owner-representatives on all projects.
  • Document daily activities and generate required reports.

Requirements

 What We Look For:

  • ACI Level 1 concrete field/lab certification (or ability to obtain).
  • 1+ year of experience in concrete paving, quality control, or a related field (preferred).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to travel up to 100% based on project needs.
  • Ability to obtain nuclear density gauge operation certification.
  • Ability to obtain field technician, plant technician, and mix design certifications as required.
  • Willingness to obtain certifications in multiple states (e.g., TN, NC, SC, OH, VA, WV).
  • Ability to gain clearance for high-security zones (e.g., airport AOA, military bases).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Physical requirements: Ability to lift 50 lbs., climb, stand, walk, kneel, squat, push, pull, and work in confined spaces.
  • Must be at least 18 years old to meet job-site safety and labor requirements.

Hi-Way Paving, Inc. is a general contractor in the heavy/civil construction space focusing on projects involving significant amounts of concrete paving on airfields.


We operate in several southeastern and midwestern states with current job sites in Tennessee and North Carolina, as well as corporate/back-office operations in Ohio (our headquarters) and remote locations.
