About The Company
Cocoon House has been Snohomish County's only resource exclusively serving homeless and at-risk youth ages 12-24 for over 25 years. We believe that every child deserves a home and the opportunity to achieve his or her fullest potential. We serve teens through housing services, street outreach, and teen homelessness prevention. From our grassroots beginnings, we have responded to the changing needs of our community. Since inception, in 1991, we have increased shelter space by 350% and now house more than 230 youth each year. In addition, through street outreach, prevention, education and a youth drop-in resource center, we reached over 2,500 youth, parents, and community members annually. Our mission is to empower young people, families and the community to break the cycle of homelessness through outreach, housing and prevention. About the Role

Description

The Outreach & Resource Connector coordinates support for youth and families through outreach and support to families and youth and building connections to community resources. The Outreach & Resource Connector works alongside the Family Advocates to support families and teens throughout Snohomish County.

Outreach & Resource Connector Duties & Responsibilities

Full-Time 40 hrs/week | On-site

Wages: $23-$25/hr DOE 

This position is typically a 9am-5pm work schedule with required evening flexibility two to three days each week to meet with families, as needed. This position also requires some weekend availability such as one weekend each month to conduct the family classes with weekday schedule adjusted to accommodate.


Outreach

  • Conduct community outreach to schools, treatment facilities or hospitals, juvenile justice facilities or probation, family resource centers, community nonprofits, and/or other community resources and events to increase awareness of Cocoon House’s services for families and youth

Resource Navigation

  • Provide expertise in resource navigation for the Family Engagement team at Cocoon House
  • Support youth and families in navigating public and community resources 
  • Provide adequate follow up to ensure connections to community resources are able to be made 

Drop-in and Phone Line Support for Families

  • Provide weekly drop-in support for families experiencing instability in Everett and Lynnwood
  • Provide families with community resources, basic needs supplies, and parenting support
  • Make referrals to other Cocoon House services as well as agency partners

This position includes mostly day hours with two evenings each week and at least one weekend day each month.

Requirements

 

Skills needed to be successful in this role:

  • Two years of experience working directly with parents or guardians of middle school and/or high school youth and navigating community resources required.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Strong at crisis de-escalation.
  • Knowledge of issues facing young people, adolescent development, and strengths-based approaches in working with families.
  • Individuals with lived experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Certified Peer Counselor preferred.
  • Experience in facilitation preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

General:

  • High school diploma/GED or high school equivalency
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • DCYF background clearance
  • Acceptable driver's abstract with no more than 2 violations within last 3 years
  • Possess a valid driver's license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation

Physical:

  • Ability to effectively communicate with all internal and external clients
  • Be able to hear voices and alarms.
  • Ability to read and comprehend a variety of materials
  • Ability to operate phone, computer, and record information for files and logs
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 Ibs
  • Must have ability to run up and down indoor and outdoor stairwells in case of youth emergency.
