Job Summary
The Electrical Technician – HV/MV/LV is responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems and equipment in utility-scale solar power plants. The role involves hands-on work with high, medium, and low-voltage systems, including substations, switchgear, transformers, motors, UPS systems, and associated electrical utilities, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient plant operation.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Operations & Maintenance
Perform operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of HV, MV, and LV systems and equipment within the solar power plant.
Maintain numerical relays, transformers, MV/HV cables, vacuum breakers, MV/LV motors, and other plant electrical assets.
Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure optimal performance of all electrical systems.
Substation & Plant Equipment
Work on HV substations, switchboards up to 6.6 kV, and related electrical equipment.
Operate and maintain uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), thyristor rectifiers, and other plant electrical utilities.
Support plant switching and operations on 1500V DC, 11kV, and 33kV systems.
Instrumentation & Control
Support systems integration involving PLCs, HVAC controls, and instrumentation.
Use computer-based man-machine interfaces for monitoring and control of electrical systems.
Electrical Fault Diagnosis & Repairs
Identify, diagnose, and repair electrical faults in HV, MV, and LV equipment.
Carry out MV/HV cable jointing and repair, vacuum breaker testing, and motor maintenance.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and work logs.
Report equipment condition, maintenance requirements, and operational anomalies to the Electrical Supervisor.
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
Comply strictly with HSE policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
Ensure all electrical work follows permit-to-work, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and electrical safety standards.
Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and risk assessments.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.
Experience:
Minimum experience in solar power plants above 100 MWp, or similar industrial facilities.
Hands-on experience with numerical relays, HV/MV/LV switchgear, transformers, motors, UPS systems, thyristor rectifiers, and plant electrical utilities.
Experience in switching and operation at 1500V DC, 11kV, and 33kV is highly desirable.
Familiarity with PLC systems, HVAC, and instrumentation is preferred.
Computer Skills:
Proficiency in MS Office, computer-based monitoring systems, and man-machine interfaces.
Skills & Competencies
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in electrical systems
Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and P&IDs
Good communication skills in English (spoken, written, and reading)
Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
