About the Role

Job Purpose

Railway infrastructure such as tracks, tunnels and viaducts are inspected and monitored routinely to ensure safe use. Increasingly, the use of inspection technologies such as photo imaging systems, laser and ultrasonic scan systems are used alongside more traditional track visual inspections methods to determine the condition of the infrastructure.

Railway buildings and facilities are also equipped with smart environmental control, pump monitoring, and lift control systems. These building conditioning monitoring systems could be OEM proprietary systems or 3rd party solutions.

The Manager, Condition Monitoring IFM is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational oversight of condition monitoring activities across railway infrastructure and facilities.

Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of Manager, Condition Monitoring IFM are as listed below. Note that the list is not comprehensive and related duties and responsibilities may be assigned from time to time.

  • Lead and oversee the IFM Condition Monitoring team, ensuring the effective operation and performance of condition monitoring systems across the network.
  • Plan and manage manpower readiness of the Condition Monitoring team, ensuring that competency and training needs are met.
  • Ensure compliance and audit preparedness, overseeing adherence to SMRT Trains policies, departmental work processes and safety requirements.
  • Oversee and ensure effective defect escalation, defect severity prioritisation, and communication with maintenance units for their timely rectification.
  • Drive technology scouting and adoption, guiding engineers in evaluating and recommending proven condition monitoring technologies that enhance safety, reliability, or maintenance efficiency.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment of processes, integration of data streams, and effective coordination of condition‑based maintenance efforts.

Qualifications & Work Experience

Diploma or Degree in Mechanical / Civil / Building and Facilities Engineering or equivalent from a recognised institution, with 5 years’ working experience in managing large groups of maintenance workforce.

Skills

Technical skills include:

  • Strong understanding of Mechanical or Civil Engineering
  • Prior knowledge of railway track and/or civil structure will be beneficial
  • Excel and Power BI skills for analysis of data, tracking and visualization of business performance

Generic skills include:

  • Fluent in English, ability to converse in Malay and Mandarin will be beneficial
  • Comfortable with communicating to large audiences
  • Comfortable with people management
  • Strong planning skills and high on conscientiousness
