Surveyor - Charlotte

Description
At Hi-Way Paving, we are general contractors in the construction field that specialize in significant amounts of concrete paving, storm drainage, and excavation on highways and airfields.
This role requires frequent travel between our project locations, including Charlotte, NC; Nashville, TN; and future sites as needed. If you're an experienced surveyor open to travel and looking for opportunities to contribute to high-quality paving projects, we'd love to hear from you!
What You'll Do:
- Conduct surveying activities on roadways, airfields, airports, and military bases, ensuring accuracy through thorough review of existing records and evidence.
- Develop and implement survey methods aligned with project requirements and industry standards.
- Operate a variety of surveying instruments and tools to measure land features, including latitude, longitude, and elevations.
- Produce detailed maps, sketches, and charts to document survey results.
- Collaborate directly with grading and paving crews to support field operations.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to other field staff as needed.
- Prepare and present survey findings to the Survey and/or Machine Control Manager and other project stakeholders.
- Work alongside engineers, architects, and project leaders to ensure alignment between survey data and design plans.
- Assist Superintendents and Project Managers with additional operational duties, as required.
Requirements
What We Look For:
- 0–3 years of experience as a surveyor or in a similar role within the construction industry.
- Familiarity with GPS and Total Station (TPS) technology is preferred but not required, training can be provided.
- Possession of valid certifications is required for work on active construction sites in project locations.
- Strong aptitude in math and problem-solving.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Willingness to work nights and weekends, as project needs dictate.
- Additional Requirements:
- Ability to gain clearance for restricted/high-security zones (e.g., airport AOA, military bases).
- Willingness to travel 100% of the time.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Physical ability to lift 50 lbs, climb, walk, kneel, squat, push, pull, and enter confined spaces.

- Must be at least 18 years old to meet job-site safety and labor requirements.
