About the Role

Description

Job Summary:

The Therapy Technician will provide all support functions regarding patient treatment, to the Occupational Therapists and administrative support to the Therapy Coordinator.


Duties/Responsibilities:


Splinting:

  • Assist the therapist by cutting out a drawn splint pattern from a thermoplastic material
  • Apply straps or riveted straps and Velcro to splints
  • Smoothen rough or pressing edges on splints
  • Sew splint straps or garments as needed
  • Clean and pad splints before they are fitted by the therapist
  • Assist the therapist with the forming of orthotics (pinch-ons, large splints)
  • Pre-cut blanks with cutter, precut Velcro blanks
  • Restock splint island shelves
  • Fabricate splint kits, including, pre-made straps
  • Clean splint pans and split scissors
  • Assist with reordering of monthly supplies
  • Maintain the sewing machine in working order

Wound Care Area:

  • Clean whirlpools after use
  • Disinfect debridement tables after use
  • Restock essential supplies for daily use
  • Scrub and package debridement tools

Shoulder Room:

  • Restock towels, sheets and pillowcases as they are laundered
  • Change towels, sheets and pillowcases after each patient use and disinfect tables
  • Clean and refill hydrocollator monthly
  • Refill ultrasound gel containers weekly
  • Return hot packs to hydrocollator after each patient use
  • Top off hydrocollator water daily


Modalities:

  • Clean paraffin excess and refill daily; clean paraffin machines monthly
  • Clean the filter in the fluidotherapy machine bi-monthly.

Clinic Area:

  • Interview new patients and complete intake information in writing or into the computer
  • Assist with patient flow; help the patient questions or concerns regarding check in, check out or moving to the next area of treatment
  • Clean and straighten therapy clinic during and after treatments
  • Straighten weight area during and after treatments
  • Maintain the BTE work simulator in working order
  • Wipe down doors and lockers
  • Refill lotions and gels
  • Wipe down therapy tables at the end of the day
  • Restock all billable items ordered
  • Make copies of patient handouts to replenish supplies

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist with ordering and restocking monthly supplies for splinting, wound care, modalities, therapy supplies for the clinic.
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Excellent speaking and presentation skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidential records, PHI.

Education and Experience:

  • College Degree is preferred, but not required
  • Experience in an Orthopedic setting preferred

Physical Requirements: 

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking. 
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. 

Please note: Therapy Technicians are not to engage in patient evaluations, treatment planning or patient care unless directly assisting a therapist who is carrying out the treatment plan.
