Job Purpose: Responsible for inspecting coating applications to tanks, vessels, and other equipment.  

Essential Functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Inspects tanks to match serial numbers and job numbers, checks for pin holes or defects on tanks. Ensures tanks get stripe coated when applicable. Assists with moving tanks in and out of paint booths.  
2. Mixes paint and ensures that the correct tip sizes are used for painting and coating. 
3. Monitors temperature, ensures pumps are working correctly, evaluates the inside and outside surface profiles, checks fan speed and filters, checks wet mil while painting, and checks coatings and paints on dry mil. 
4. Performs DFT testing and completes Quality Control sheets and data. 
5. Understands coating processes and common failures.
6. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Secures tools, materials, and equipment at end of day. 
7. Ensure all containers containing hazardous materials are labeled, kept covered when not actively in use, and that assigned subordinates do the same. 
8. Comparing actual work to job specifications and safety data sheets (SDS).
9. Properly dispose of hazardous waste in accordance with KDHE requirements including spraying waste paint into designated containers and when running chemicals through spray equipment. Ensure subordinates do the same. 
10. Comply with prescribed safety procedures or federal laws regulating waste disposal methods and ensure subordinates do the same. 
11. Additional hazardous waste activities may include, with further training, operating the solvent reclaimer, conducting weekly inspections of hazardous waste storage areas, reviewing/signing waste disposal manifests, moving hazardous waste containers to storage area, cleanup of minor chemical/hazardous waste spills, and supervision of those tasked with those functions.
12. Performs additional duties as needed. 
13. Reviews coating manufacture specifications and customer specifications for jobs to ensure painters know desired Wet Mil Thickness (WFT) to reach desired Dry film thicknesses (DFT).  

Requirements

1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
2. Basic Coatings Inspector Certification (CIP Level 1) required, Certified Coatings Inspector / CIP Level 2 Certification preferred.
3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate detailed information to customers, coworkers and management with the ability to provide public speaking and customer presentations as needed. 
4. Ability to read and interpret document such as invoices, procedure manuals, and job instructions and basic problem solving skills.  
5. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions and percentages.  
6. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  
7. Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and multi-task effectively.  
8. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.  
9. Ability to operate computer and computer software, to include Microsoft Office products.  
10. Ability to use department equipment.  
11. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
