Before/After School Counselor

The Westfield Area YMCA is looking for caring, supportive and responsible individuals to join our team as Before Care and/or After Care Counselors for school age children (K-5th). We are seeking multiple candidates to work various shifts Monday through Friday between the hours of 7am - 9am and/or 2:30/3:00pm - 6:00pm. Flexible schedules available.

Counselors are expected to assist the Coordinator and Classroom/Group Supervisor in all aspects of planning, development and execution of the program daily activities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Accompany children (to playground, and exterior of building) in order to supervise activities, such as outdoor play and fire drills.
• Must be able to set up the classroom for activities in a safe manner.
• Assist with transporting of children by bus, as needed, always following bus policy and procedures.
• Help plan free play and learning center activities.
• Use positive reinforcement and ensure a fun and safe environment for all participants in the program.
• Be enthusiastic and encourage children involvement.

Location:  Elementary schools through Westfield

Pay

Minors:  $16.00 per hour

Adults:  $16.50 - $18.50 per hour, commensurate with education and experience

Requirements

Must be a minimum of 16 years of age

Basic experience working with children preferred

Ability to work as a team with other YMCA staff members
