Job Description

Start here. Grow here.

Are you ready to join a team of talented consultants and help us shape the future of the water industry?

Join our dynamic and multidisciplinary Water Team as an Associate Flood Risk Consultant in the Regulations and Development sector. As an Associate Consultant, you will technically lead and manage the production of flood risk consenting related documents for our major clients. You will join one of our rapidly growing UK offices, whilst also taking advantage of our flexible hybrid working model.

We are a close-knit team of consultants, engineers, technicians, hydrologists, hydraulic modellers and project managers. We work hard to give our team development opportunities, whether that is a secondment to see the client’s perspective, an assignment to spend time on site to manage a construction contract, or arranging training to allow you to grow.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Deliver: Lead & verify the production of documents such as flood risk assessments, strategic flood risk assessments, flood risk activity permits, Section 19 reports, and water resource chapters of EIAs.
  • Expertise: Lead input into tenders for complex and high-profile projects like nationally significant infrastructure projects.
  • Collaborate: Build strong relationships with clients and across technical discipline teams to ensure we successfully deliver a wide range of fluvial, coastal, surface water or drainage flood risk management projects.
  • Quality: Keep up-to-date with developments in legislation and guidelines that may affect our services; and use AECOM’s project management systems to deliver high-quality outputs to our clients in line with the agreed programme and budget.
  • Lead: Mentor staff within the team to support their professional development.

Become part of our dynamic Water business, which boasts around 700 experts across the UK & Ireland. Collaborate with top-tier engineers and consultants to deliver a variety of captivating projects, from small initiatives to large-scale ventures, all the way from concept to completion.

If you're passionate about innovation and turning bold ideas into reality, we want to hear from you! Why not give our AECOM Water page on LinkedIn a follow to stay updated on the impactful projects we're working on and see firsthand the difference we're making in the industry!

Grow with us.

You’ll thrive in an inclusive and forward-thinking environment where your contributions are valued - and let's not forget the perks! You'll enjoy a range of core and personalised benefits designed to support your future and well-being, customised to fit your lifestyle. Take advantage of career development opportunities, technical practice networks, AECOM University, volunteering days and our flexible hybrid working model to ensure a work-life balance that suits you. We recognise that everyone’s circumstances are different, so we’re more than happy to discuss part-time or flexible working arrangements.

Qualifications

Ready to push the limits of what’s possible?

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Environmental Sciences or a related discipline.
  • Professional chartered member of CIWEM or ICE.
  • Significant experience in technically leading teams in the production of flood risk assessments and/or flood risk activity permits.
  • Strong track record of project management, following the principles of the NEC suite of contracts.
  • Experience and understanding of hydraulic modelling as an evidence base to flood risk assessments / activity permits.
  • FCERM appraisal, water cycle study and water framework directive assessment experience would be beneficial, but not essential.
