The Champaign County Forest Preserve District is a local, property tax-supported government agency charged with the stewardship of seven forest preserves covering almost 4,000 acres in Champaign County, Illinois. The Forest Preserve District, which covers all but seven sections of Champaign County, was established by referendum in 1935. Due to the Depression and World War II, however, the first preserve was not opened until 1948. We conserve, preserve and restore natural areas. Salary Range: Grade 3: $18.48 - $22.62 

Hours: Work hours are based on operational needs 


Position Summary 

The Pro Shop Cashier performs tasks associated with the day-to-day operations of the Pro Shop at the Lake of the Woods Golf Course. This is a part-time seasonal position; hours will vary including weekends and holidays. Several positions may be available beginning in March and continuing through November. The primary work location is the Lake of the Woods Golf Course in Mahomet. 


Job Responsibilities 

Essential Functions 

  • Greet and register arriving golfers in a professional and courteous manner. 
  • Check in golfers, collect fees, and ensure accuracy and completeness of all transaction records. 
  • Answer phones, provide information on current golf rates and current promotions, and make and confirm reservations for tee times. 
  • Promote merchandise sales and assist customers in selecting merchandise for purchase. 
  • Assist with the creation of sales displays and maintaining accurate inventory of merchandise. 
  • Maintain cleanliness of Pro Shop, including public customer areas as well as behind the counter and stockroom area. 
  • Assist with cleaning and closing of the driving range and clubhouse. 
  • Enforce District rules of conduct and inform appropriate authority if patrons or employees are endangered. 
  • Provide general information to golf course patrons regarding District facilities and services. 
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to the organizational values of Stewardship, Community, and Discovery by caring for our resources, fostering inclusive experiences, and inspiring curiosity through this position’s work. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

REQUIREMENTS  

Minimum Education & Experience 

  • Excellent customer service skills 
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in a professional and courteous manner with golf course patrons, as well as co-workers and other District employees 
  • Must possess good math skills to properly handle monetary transactions 
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision 
  • Proficient with basic computer applications 
  • Must possess good problem-solving ability and good judgment 
  • Must be at least 21 years of age 
  • Must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Previous experience or knowledge of golf and/or golf course operations 
  • CPR and/or First Aid certification 

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS  

Work is primarily performed indoors at a shared desk in a golf pro shop setting with numerous interruptions. The employee will have frequent interaction with the public. While performing this job, the employee will regularly utilize standard office equipment, including a computer and telephone. The employee may be exposed to chemicals (e.g. cleaning supplies). This position is somewhat sedentary and may involve prolonged sitting. Duties may also frequently include walking, standing, climbing, stooping, twisting, balancing, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. The employee may regularly handle, grasp, or feel objects; reach, push, or pull to reposition items; and will occasionally lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height or above and up to 50 pounds to carrying height. The ability to talk and hear, or otherwise effectively communicate is required. Visual acuity necessary for this position includes close vision, peripheral vision, distance vision, and depth perception. 


Use of personal protective equipment will be required based on job specific tasks. This may include, but is not limited to, the following items: 

• Closed toe shoes 

• Protective gloves 

• Safety goggles or glasses 

• Earplugs or ear covers 

• Reflective vest or hi-vis shirt 

• Respirators or masks
