The Lead Mechanical Engineer will play a key role in leading the design, development, and continuous improvement of mechanical systems and components that support Hyper’s electrical power distribution products and assemblies. This position combines deep technical expertise with project leadership to ensure high-performance, cost-effective, and reliable product designs that meet the demands of our fast-paced, customer-driven environment. The Lead Engineer will mentor junior team members, coordinate across disciplines, and ensure that all designs meet engineering, safety, and performance standards.
Core Responsibilities
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior mechanical engineers and lead that team in the mechanical design and development of power distribution and low-voltage electrical products, including enclosures, bus bars, panel assemblies, and related hardware.
- Drive project execution from concept through production release, ensuring adherence to specifications, timelines, and quality standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams—Electrical, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality—to ensure seamless system integration and manufacturability.
- Use advanced SolidWorks modeling and simulation tools to develop 3D models, detailed drawings, and assemblies.
- Oversee and review mechanical documentation, including BOMs, engineering change orders (ECOs), and technical reports.
- Evaluate and implement improvements to product performance, cost, and manufacturability.
- Interface with vendors and third-party partners for prototype builds, materials selection, and design-for-manufacturing activities.
- Ensure all products comply with applicable industry standards (e.g., UL1062, UL891, NEC, and other relevant codes).
- Support the continuous improvement of engineering processes, design standards, and documentation practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum of 7+ years of mechanical design experience in electrical or industrial product development (preferably power distribution, switchgear, or related fields).
- Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks and related PDM/document control tools.
- Strong knowledge of materials, fabrication methods (sheet metal, machining, extrusion), and design for manufacturability principles.
- Working knowledge of UL, NEC, and relevant safety and compliance standards.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects, meet deadlines, and manage priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite and general engineering software.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of leading by example in a collaborative setting.
Supervisory Responsibilities
