Quality Engineer

Description
This is a technical position responsible for supporting and improving all aspects of quality assurance and control while driving continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing processes. This position plays a critical role in maintaining product quality including analysis of the process and materials being used, reducing waste, enhancing customer satisfaction, and supporting regulatory and compliance requirements.
This position is on-site and based in our York, PA locations. Remote or hybrid work is not available for this role.
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Develop and maintain quality control procedures for wallpaper manufacturing, ensuring compliance with internal standards and customer specifications.
- Analysis of customer complaints and internal issues that are related to product quality. Investigate non-conformances and perform root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
- Support the management of customer complaints and work closely with customer service and production to resolve issues quickly and effectively.
- Development of new products from initial vetting through launch and verification. Ensure new products, either purchased or York produced, meets customer or market needs.
- Collaborate with the Production and Supply Chain teams to develop quality plans for new products and processes. Organize and plan for product development lab work and process trial runs.
- Lead and facilitate continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen methodologies to reduce defects, scrap, and downtime.
- Conduct process audits and product inspections to ensure consistent product quality.
- Support customer audit requirements.
- Develop the material specification for substrates, inks, and coatings.
- Assist in developing manufacturing setup sheets and specifications for all products.
- Maintain quality records, certifications, and related QMS documentation.
- Develop training materials and lead quality training sessions for production and technical staff.
- Use data analysis tools to track trends and KPIs and make data-driven recommendations.
Requirements
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Quality, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
- 3–5 years of quality engineering experience in a manufacturing environment; wallpaper, paper, fabric, print, or coating industries preferred.
- Hands-on experience with continuous improvement tools (Lean, Six Sigma, 5S, Value Stream Mapping, etc.).
- Working knowledge of quality standards and systems such as RCA, SPC, CAPA, etc.
- Proficiency in MS Office, and familiarity with ERP systems or quality software a plus.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively across multiple departments.
- Highly analytical and organized with a detail-oriented mindset.
- Certifications such as CQE (Certified Quality Engineer) or Six Sigma Green Belt are a plus.
- Experience working with customer specifications, aesthetic quality controls, or tactile product evaluations.
- Knowledge of environmental or regulatory requirements related to coatings or adhesives (e.g., VOCs, REACH, etc.).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Bending, kneeling, standing in plant environment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. when needed.
