Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Mechanic helps support the maintenance of company facilities with adherence to food quality and safety policies, with a focus on safe and efficient upkeep and operation of fluid processing equipment, including motors, conveyor systems, and automation software. This is a full-time, at- will, non-exempt hourly position.


Key Responsibilities:


•Assist in keeping company facilities in good operating condition through preventive maintenance, machine tests, troubleshooting and diagnosis, and installation of new equipment

•Resolve mechanical or structural issues by performing routine or emergency repairs as needed

•Conduct routine inspections of premises and equipment

•Complete assigned maintenance tasks and work orders 

•Comply with record keeping responsibilities in connection with preventive maintenance, assigned work orders, or other work performed

•Respond to questions and requests from production, warehouse, or office personnel

•Oversee contractors when outside support for maintenance or repairs are necessary

•Maintain a safe and clean work area, including parts, tools, and supplies, by complying with procedures and requirements




Requirements

Qualifications and Core Competencies:

• Ability to operate in an ever-changing environment with priorities shifting regularly

•Capacity and willingness to provide support to a variety of manufacturing activities, from the simple to extremely complex

•Experience in electric forklift repair and diagnostics

•Broad experience with building and equipment maintenance, including electrical systems

•Mechanically inclined, with ability to take apart machines, equipment, or devices to remove and replace defective parts, read and understand blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs as necessary

•Understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic systems 

•Ability to identify mechanical and electrical components such as solenoid valves, photo eyes, bearings, contactors, fuses, relays, etc

•Familiar with repairing pumps such as centrifugal, positive displacement (PD) and diaphragm pumps

•Ability to use power tools and hand tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, wrenches, precision measuring instruments, and electronic testing devices 

•Well organized with time and task management skills, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail

•Professional demeanor, positive attitude, and strong communication skills

•Ability to work independently and as part of a team

•Basic computer skills, with ability to learn new business software 

•Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and regulations

•Familiar with 120V and 480V electrical systems; proficient in the use of a multimeter for testing and troubleshooting.

•Experience in HVAC is a plus 

•Experience in sanitary welding, (TIG, MIG and Orbital), preferred but not required

•PLC programming/troubleshooting a plus

•High school diploma or equivalent

•Travel/work between three facilities, (2 – Niles, 1 -  Northlake) as needed





Physical Requirements:

•Able to stand and walk throughout the day, including in uncomfortably warm or cold environments

•Physical dexterity, including use of arms, legs, and body to climb, lift, squat, push, pull, bend, and twist as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery

•Able to visually inspect machines, equipment, and tools

•Able to safely lift and move up to 75 pounds

•Able to work in high areas 

•Repetitive movement using keyboard
