About the Role

Job Summary: 

Serves as electrician, performing the full range of functions in connection with installation, modification, and/or repair of the Navy Exchange electrical systems and electrically operated equipment.  

Duties and Responsibilities:

Troubleshoots, installs, maintains and repairs electrical wiring systems, related switches, switch gear, distribution panels and outlet boxes, circuits, as well as wide variety of electrical fixtures, motors, and electrically operated equipment.

Follows maintenance schedule and inspections or work orders; performs maintenance services, diagnoses system or equipment malfunction and repairs as necessary.

Inspects, maintains, cleans, repairs, tests and adjusts electrical buzzer and bell circuits, light sockets, lighting fixtures, fans, switches, office and heating drills, grinders and shop equipment.

Tests circuits and equipment by use of voltmeter, ammeter, wattmeter, megger and ohmmeter.

Measures, cuts, threads, bends, assembles and installs conduits, inserting, splicing and connecting wires to fixtures, outlets, switches, receptacles and power source.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL EFFORT

Is required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions where parts of systems worked on are in hard-to-reach places.

Frequently lifts, carries and sets up tools, equipment and parts weighing up to 20 pounds; occasionally may lift or carry items weighing over 20 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Works inside and outside. Subject to contact with dirt and soiling of hands and clothing, shocks and burns from high voltage, cuts and bruises.



GENERAL EXPERIENCE: 

One year of experience that provided the knowledge and ability to perform basic electrical work such as repairing electrical wiring systems and switches, etc.


SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: 

One year of high school education may be substituted for 3 months of general experience up to a High School Diploma or GED for one year of general experience. 


SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 

Five years of experience that provided the knowledge and ability to perform a full range of electrician functions in connection with installation, modification, and/or repair of electrical systems and electrically operated equipment etc.
 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

Standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions where parts of systems are in hard-to-reach places.

Frequently lifts, carries and sets up tools, equipment and parts weighing up to 20 pounds; occasionally may lift or carry items weighing over 20 pounds
