Full-Time, Days 

Starting Pay Rate: $18.00

The Diet Technician (DT) is responsible for screening and assessing the nutritional needs of residents and assisting in the development of appropriate care plans. The DT supports the nutritional care of residents in conjunction with the Registered Dietitian (RD). 



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Responsible for the screening and assessment of residents.
  • Responsible for clerical duties related to maintaining menu systems and processing diet-related orders for all residents.  
  • Assist residents with menu selection on admission, as needed, and during seasonal menu changes, maintaining resident preferences and compliance with diet orders. 
  • Observe residents during mealtimes to determine modifications or changes that may be needed.
  • Monitor residents’ food and nutrient intake and collaborate with the RD and dining staff to provide optimal nutritional care for residents.
  • Document nutrition-related information in the medical record in accordance with facility policies.
  • Attend interdisciplinary care plan meetings as needed. 
  • Provide basic nutrition education to residents, families, caregivers, and staff. 
  • Assist with menu planning, quality assurance, and food safety practices as needed. 
  • Stay up-to-date on nutrition care standards, policies, and continuing education. 


Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Proficiency with computers required, including use of Microsoft Office. 
  • Experience with nutrition management programs and electronic medical records preferred. 
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations. 
  • Knowledge of proper food handling and infection control procedures. 
  • Ability to interact courteously and tactfully with staff, residents, family members, visitors, vendors, and the general public.

EDUCATION: 

  • Associate degree in nutrition, dietetics, or related field, or equivalent education.

EXPERIENCE: 

  • Two to three years of experience in nutrition and experience working with a dietician.

Performing duties of this job requires prolonged standing and routine walking in resident care areas. Must be able to occasionally lift loads of 30 pounds without assistance and the ability to sit, talk, and hear is required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
