About the Role

Description

The C.N.A., EMT-B, or Paramedic assists patients with activities of daily living for all patients and assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment under the direction of and supervision of the RN in charge of the unit. Also, greets and interviews patients and obtains signatures for the purpose of initiating the patient record. Scheduled workdays and times could vary and will include weekends. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports and promotes an environment conducive with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the hospital.
  • Assist patients in a manner conducive to the patient’s comfort and safety. 
  • Take and record vital signs, height, weight, intake and output, and measurements as applicable, in an accurate and precise manner.
  • Notifies nurse of changes in patient’s condition in a timely and appropriate manner    
  • Keeps and maintains the ER Central Logbook and follows all EMTALA regulations.
  • Greets and interviews patients and obtains signatures for the purpose of initiating the patient record. 
  • Generates the admission records on the computer.
  • Creates proper ID bands, and paperwork necessary for patient identification and billing purposes.
  • Transports patients as needed though the facility.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patients, hospital, or physician related information
  • Assists with daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning of work and storage areas.
  • Maintain orderly condition of assigned work area.
  • Is knowledgeable of general hospital policies and procedures.
  • Other duties may be assigned and are subject to change with or without prior notice.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Good mental health and emotional maturity
  • Good personal grooming and hygiene

  • Displays knowledge of sterile and non-sterile supplies, equipment, and procedures
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and practices Universal Precautions
  • Willingness to perform a variety of minimal repetitive tasks that may involve unpleasant conditions and maintain patience and tact.
  • Possession of a genuine interest and concern for geriatric and disabled persons

Requirements

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Graduation from high school or GED is preferred.
  • Must have the ability to follow written and verbal directions.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Successful completion of a vocational program for nursing assistants including the State of Illinois Competency Exam or completion of required portion of a RN program 
  • EMT-B or Paramedic certification
  • CPR certification or willing to obtain within 60 days. 
  • In compliance with Criminal Background Check requirement


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing and walking
  • Required to climb, balance, stoop, and kneel.
  • Required to use arms, hands, and fingers for repetitive grasping, pulling, and pushing and feeling.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, any workload exceeding 50 pounds will require assistance.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Works in well light, climate-controlled setting
  • May be exposed to communicable diseases, unpleasant sights, odors, and materials. 
  • The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate.

Receives training and/or attends necessary meetings to meet the criteria as outlined in Hillsboro Health’s Corporate Compliance Plan and Code of Conduct. Understands the responsibilities related to compliance and knows how to contact the Corporate Compliance Officer should there be any instance of question or concern regarding fraud and/or abuse.

SALARY INFORMATION

C.N.A. $17.50 - $26.25 per hour
EMT $18.90 - $28.35 per hour

Paramedic $20.41 - $30.62 per hour
