About the Role

Bring your leadership, strategic vision, and strong Te Ao Māori expertise to influence, guide, and deliver our strategy. We are seeking a respected and experienced leader who can provide intellectual, strategic, cultural, and organisational leadership to support the development of strategy, strengthen delivery, and navigate targeted change that honours Te Ao Māori perspectives and aspirations.

Te tūranga – The role

As Principal Advisor, Te Ao Māori, you will lead the development, coordination, and delivery of Te Pūtea Matua’s Te Ao Māori Strategy – Te Waka Hourua.

Sitting within our Enterprise Services Group, this role is central to uplifting our cultural capability across the organisation. You will provide thought leadership, cultural expertise and strategic guidance, ensuring our Te Ao Māori aspirations are understood, embedded and supported with integrity.

Working collaboratively with teams across the Bank, you will help shape direction, build confidence, and enable meaningful outcomes for Te Pūtea Matua and the communities we serve.

Ō pūkenga – About you

To thrive in this role, you will bring:

  • Proven leadership experience in Te Ao Māori contexts, grounded in tikanga, kaupapa and relationships.

  • The ability to shape, develop and implement strategic plans that give life to organisational priorities, including confident decision-making and clear prioritisation.

  • Exceptional communication and influencing skills, enabling you to work confidently across senior levels and diverse teams.

  • Expertise in relationship management, with the ability to build and nurture trusted partnerships at a senior level, including Māori entities.

  • Sound judgement and holistic thinking, able to consider broad and interconnected issues.

  •  A strong grounding in Te Reo Māori me ngā tikanga Māori, with practiced and applied understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its significance within the public sector context.
