The Senior Director of IT is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and ongoing management of the organization’s enterprise IT infrastructure and technology operations. This role ensures that core technology platforms, including networks, cloud environments, end-user computing, enterprise systems and security architecture, are reliable, scalable, and secure in support of clinical and operational functions.  


Essential Duties: 

Strategic leadership and Governance 

  • Lead and develop the IT department’s vision and strategy, ensuring alignment with the healthcare organization's overall objectives. 
  • Establish a modern, scalable, and resilient enterprise technology architecture across on-premise and cloud environments.  
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on emerging technologies, industry trends, and IT best practices.  
  • Partner with clinical, operational, and executive leadership teams to understand their technology needs and provide IT solutions that enhance patient care and operational efficiency. 
  • Stay current with industry trends, regulations, and emerging technologies to continuously improve data integrity practices. 

Clinical systems, data, and innovation 

  • Provide executive leadership in the planning, implementation, and management of innovative healthcare IT solutions, including Electronic Health Records (EHR), Health Information Exchange (HIE), and clinical data management systems. 
  • Drive continuous innovation and the adoption of new technologies, such as AI, machine learning, and predictive analytics, to improve patient outcomes and enhance operational performance. 
  • Apply analytical and problem-solving skills to identify opportunities for improvement in data quality. 

 Infrastructure, security, and resilience 

  • Lead the design, deployment and optimization of core infrastructure components.  
  • Ensure high availability and performance of systems supporting clinical and business operations.  
  • Establish clear SLAs, KPIs, and performance metrics to ensure reliable service across all locations.  
  • Develop and enforce cybersecurity policies to protect sensitive patient data and ensure systems are resilient against breaches, with regular risk assessments. 
  • Implement proactive monitoring, capacity planning, and performance management processes.  
  • Drive standardization, automation, and operational efficiency across infrastructure services.  
  • Collaborate with the Leadership Team to develop and execute business continuity plans and disaster recovery plans. 
  • Lead capacity planning to ensure infrastructure scales efficiently with growth.  

Compliance and risk management 

  • Ensure all systems are compliant with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA, HITECH, Meaningful Use, and other relevant standards and laws. 
  • Oversee identity and access management, endpoint security, network security, and monitoring capabilities.  
  • Conduct regular audits and assessments of IT systems to ensure compliance and mitigate any potential legal or financial risks. 
  • Drive cybersecurity awareness and accountability across the organization.  

People leadership and culture 

  • Manage a team of IT professionals, system administrators, and project leads, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture. 
  • Provide mentorship, training, and development opportunities, ensuring continuous professional growth and knowledge of healthcare technologies. 

Projects, vendors, MSP, and financial stewardship 

  • Lead largescale IT projects from inception to completion, ensuring on time delivery within budget while meeting organizational requirements.  
  • Lead the evaluation, selection, and ongoing governance of an external managed service provider and other key technology partners, including defining scope, negotiating SLAs, and monitoring performance. 
  • Oversee vendor management for third party IT solutions, ensuring high quality service delivery and alignment with organizational priorities.  
  • Develop and manage the annual IT budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and cost-effective solutions that support the organization’s IT needs.  
  • Identify opportunities for technology-driven cost savings and operational efficiencies.

  • Expertise in IT infrastructure, data security, and systems integration.  
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to analyze and solve problems.  
  • Solid understanding of the healthcare landscape, including clinical workflows, patient care models, and healthcare delivery systems.

Requirements

 

Education: 

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, Healthcare Administration, or related field. Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Healthcare CIO, Certified Information Systems Security Professional - CISSP) is highly preferred. 

Experience: 

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in IT, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role. 
  • Experience in the Healthcare sector.  
  • In-depth knowledge of healthcare IT systems and data analytics tools. 
  • Experience with IT compliance and regulatory standards in the healthcare industry, including HIPAA 

Supervisory Requirements: 

  • Will be responsible for managing a team (remote and on-site).
