Emory Valley Center has been meeting the needs of people with intellectual, developmental and physical disabilities in the East Tennessee community since 1955. We currently provide a wide variety of services including Behavioral Health, Community Participation, Community Supported Living, Early Childhood Education, Enabling Technology, Family Support and Workforce Development. These programs support more than 3,300 people annually in 16 East Tennessee counties.

As Community Manager, you won’t just coordinate services, you’ll help build lives rooted in belonging.

You’ll support adults receiving:

  • CISS (Community Integration and Support Services)
     
  • Community Participation (CP)
     
  • ILST (Independent Living Skills Training)
     

Your mission? Promote meaningful engagement, skill development, and natural supports while ensuring services are delivered with excellence, compassion, and purpose.


What You’ll Do:


Lead & Support a Team

  • Train and mentor DSPs in person-centered, community-based practices
     
  • Ensure proper staffing coverage, including PTO, training, and emergency needs
     
  • Step in to provide direct support when needed including interim coverage for newly accepted cases
     

Champion Person-Centered Services

  • Participate in Circle of Support (COS) and annual Person-Centered Support Plan (PCSP) meetings
     
  • Monitor service utilization to ensure individuals receive their full authorized supports
     
  • Model person-centered engagement alongside DSPs in real community settings
     

Build Social Capital & Community Connections

  • Identify inclusive venues, volunteer opportunities, memberships, and natural supports
     
  • Support development of creative community calendars based on individual preferences
     
  • Organize focus groups, social outings, and holiday/community events
     
  • Share and celebrate success stories that highlight community integration
     

Innovate & Leverage Technology

  • Identify individuals who may benefit from enabling technology
     
  • Support implementation of tech-based natural supports in home and community settings
     

Strengthen Culture & Engagement

  • Contribute to our Community Participation Facebook page presence
     
  • Support internal culture rooted in compassion, innovation, quality, and respect for diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One year of experience in the IDD field or a related area preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Must have a valid Tennessee driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Duties may require occasional after-hours work and travel to organizational sites.
  • Required training/certifications provided by the organization including CPR/First Aid.


KEY BEHAVIORS/QUALIFICATIONS FOR SUCCESS:

  • Build strong relationships with internal staff, families, and external partners while demonstrating sensitivity to program goals and organizational image.
  • Presents information clearly in verbal, written, and digital formats.
  • Manages time effectively and organizes responsibilities to promote teamwork and service efficiency.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic documentation platforms.
  • Exercises sound judgment and maintain professionalism in all interactions.
  • Builds rapport with people receiving services and maintains a positive, supportive relationship.
  • Maintains confidentiality and adheres to HIPAA/HITECH standards.
  • Capable of lifting 50 pounds (e.g., manual wheelchair) and assisting with physical transfers as needed.

REPORTING STRUCTURE AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Reports directly to the Workforce Innovation Director.
  • Supervises and supports DSPs in the delivery of high-quality community-based services.
  • Provides oversight into community participation, monitors staff performance, and ensures effective implementation of service plans.
