About The Job

The Singapore University of Social Sciences is seeking a full-time research fellow for a multi-year multi-country research study on the state of the families in ASEAN.

ASEAN countries are experiencing diverse and rapidly changing demographic and societal trends. These include falling fertility, population ageing, increased internal and cross-border migration, and the rise of dual-income households. Additionally, global challenges such as geopolitical uncertainty and climate change threaten agricultural productivity and livelihoods, particularly in developing ASEAN nations. Across ASEAN, technological advancements are having varying impact on employment opportunities for individuals across different age groups and educational levels. To navigate these shifts, strengthening support for families is crucial because families form the cornerstone of social cohesion and resilience in this region. To this end, this collaborative research project seeks to deepen regional knowledge and in the process create a body of knowledge on the family as a social institution in ASEAN in order to support families in these challenging times.

Aims

The project aims to develop a comprehensive understanding of the state of ASEAN families, examine how families in the region are adapting to demographic, societal, and environmental changes, and identify ways to strengthen support for families through evidence-based policies and interventions.
