About the Role



JOB SUMMARY

The Technician II assists with maintenance tasks for company assets and assists maintenance staff with overhauling minor components and installing replacements, with electrical, hydraulic and computer diagnostics and with scheduled and unscheduled preventative maintenance.


CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Perform preventive maintenance according to the set schedules within standard repair times.
  2. Properly identify faults and out of service criteria when conducting a vehicle inspection and make repairs in a timely fashion
  3. Notify supervisor immediately of any parts that need to be ordered
  4. Perform basic diagnostic work and be trained on the use of gauges in hydraulic diagnosis and computer software for engine and transmission diagnosis 
  5. Perform replacement of known failed auxiliary components, to include but not limited to: brakes, sensors, starters, alternators or hydraulic cylinders in a timely fashion without come- backs.
  6. Work will be subject to periodic audits
  7. May assist in training Tech 1’s or audit Preventive Maintenance Inspections
  8. Assist with more complex repairs to include but not limited to Turbos and EGR Components, Fuel Filter Housings, Oil Thermostats/ Housings, Air Compressors or Differentials
  9. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when and where required.
  10. Report immediately any safety violations and correcting unsafe acts or conditions.
  11. Comply with company safety policies and with applicable state and federal regulations.
  12. May be required to drive a vehicle with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) not to exceed 26,000 pounds.
  13. Track time in accordance with company procedures.
  14. Maintain service truck readiness including safety equipment, tools, equipment, and cleanliness.
  15. Maintain repair order documentation to include repair description, parts and fluids used, and repair times. 
  16. Perform monthly inventories as required.
  17. Maintain a clean workspace.  
  18. Attend training sessions for continuing education.
  19. Other duties as assigned.


REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least one year of verifiable preventative maintenance experience or technical degree with demonstrated knowledge of maintenance on class 8 vehicles or DOT Inspector License (per 49 CFR – Part 396.19)
  • Must possess own tools
  • Familiarity with shop equipment and safety practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Basic automotive knowledge
  • Basic understanding of oil sampling theory and practices
  • Mechanical aptitude 
  • Demonstrated aptitude for maintaining and repairing equipment
  • Ability to read labels, safety warnings, and guidelines
  • Ability to learn basic computer skills to communicate document daily work and progress, track procurements and repair status
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and remain alert to ensure safety
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions and to communicate with co-workers
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment


PREFERRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or its equivalent
  • Class B commercial driver’s license
  • Safe driving for the last five years 
  • Formal training in preventive maintenance operations
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified or the ability to obtain certification


REQUIRED LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS

  • Valid Class C driver’s license
  • Safe driving record for the past three years
  • Current State Inspector License or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
