General Mechanical Engineer

Job Description
We’re seeking an experienced General Mechanical Engineer to join our Workshop team based out of Hamilton.
In this hands‑on role, you’ll be a key team player, supporting the maintenance, repair and diagnostics of our bitumen fleet, asphalt manufacturing plant, construction plant and equipment.
What you’ll be doing
Carrying out maintenance, repair, fault finding and diagnostics across a range of plant and equipment including our bitumen fleet
Using your experience in mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems through your daily tasks
Supporting breakdown response and helping to minimise downtime of critical equipment
Apply strong health, safety and housekeeping practices to maintain a tidy and safe workshop
Working collaboratively with workshop and operations teams to plan and prioritise work
Completing accurate job cards, service records and maintenance documentation
What you will bring to the table:
Minimum 3 years’ industry experience in a mechanical/engineering workshop or similar environment
Relevant qualification in General Engineering (or equivalent trade/tertiary qualification)
Minimum NZ Class 1 Full driver’s licence
Strong technical aptitude & diagnostic ability
Proven experience with mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems, ideally with heavy machinery, transport fleets or contracting equipment
A proactive, can‑do attitude and willingness to assist where needed
Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment
