Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Buyer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and implementing procurement strategies that align with the company’s objectives, optimizing costs, and ensuring timely, high-quality acquisition of materials and services. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and stakeholders to drive efficient procurement processes across projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute procurement strategies that support business goals and project requirements.
  • Identify cost-saving and value-optimization opportunities without compromising quality or reliability.
  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key suppliers and contractors.
  • Evaluate supplier performance regularly and implement improvement initiatives.
  • Stay informed on market trends, supplier capabilities, and industry developments to mitigate risk and leverage opportunities.
  • Lead negotiations for goods and services to secure favorable terms, pricing, and conditions.
  • Collaborate with legal and other departments to review and finalize contractual agreements as required.
  • Implement and maintain ethical sourcing practices.
  • Track and report on cost savings, cost avoidance, and procurement KPIs.
  • Manage day-to-day procurement activities, including issuing RFQs, purchase orders, and change orders.
  • Lead or support the evaluation and contract award process.
  • Facilitate meetings with key vendors and maintain accurate records and minutes.
  • Act as a liaison between engineering consultants, contractors, site operations, and technical teams.
  • Maintain agreement tracking and other reporting tools to ensure transparency and accountability.
  • Post-secondary degree or courses in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, or related field (preferred).
  • SCMP designation or equivalent certificate (preferred).
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in a purchasing, buyer, or contract administration role, ideally in mining, construction, or large-scale industrial projects.
  • Proven experience in RFP/RFQ processes, contract negotiation, and supplier management.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Proficient in MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, and SAP 4/HANA.
  • Team-oriented with attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience managing procurement for mining or construction projects (preferred).
  • Familiarity with vendor performance metrics and continuous improvement initiatives (preferred).
  • Exposure to project-based procurement in capital projects or large-scale operations (preferred).
